Assistant Swim Team Coach

Overview The YMCA of Springfield is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Swim Team Coach to work with athletes ages 5 through 12. This role includes evening shifts and some weekends depending on availability for swim meets. The ideal candidate has previous coaching or competitive swimming experience and is passionate about motivating athletes to be their best. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Instructswimmersin accordance withthe SPY Swim Teamguidelines. Builds effective, authentic relationships with athletesand parents, helpingthem connect with each otherand the YMCA, leading toparent involvement and identification ofpotential volunteers. Effectively engage,manage,and motivate younger athletes. Maintains records as necessary: attendance, performance evaluation, etc. Attendstaff meetings andtrainingsas scheduled. Follows allSpringfieldYMCA policy and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.Completes related reports asrequired. Executeworkouts both in and out of the water; organizeandmaintaintraining equipment on deck,reportsneedsto HeadCoach. Attend swim meets assigned.Submit appropriatereimbursementpaperworkin a timely manner. Maintaincoach’scertifications through USASwimming and YMCA Swimming. OURSERVICE EXPECTATIONS: Display a friendly, helpful,and positive disposition. Provide customer service that is thorough,timely, organized,andaccurate. Help ensure the Yis meetingmember and participant needs byutilizinggood listening skills, attentiveness, objectivity,and patience in all situations. Place members and participants as the first and highest priority showing kindness andcompassion at all times. Demonstratesthe Ycore values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through all daily activities and responsibilities Child Abuse Policies & Prevention:The YMCA enforces policies to prevent child abuse. Allegations or suspicions are taken seriously and reported to authorities. Procedures include unscheduled visits, open doors for parents, and a code of conduct for staff. We screen carefully to prevent abusers from being hired and provide child abuse prevention training to staff. Employees whofail tosupport these policies will be subject to discipline, up to termination. Qualifications PreviousExperience on a competitive swim team isrequired. Certifications: Safety Training for Swim Coaches, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen, Y Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving.Obtaininfirst60 daysand keep current. Complete all onboardingtrainingswithin 1st30 days. Current USA Swimming Membership, YMCA Swimming Membership. Ability tomaintaincertification. Mustdemonstratecoaching abilitiesin accordance withSpringfield YMCA standards. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Visual and auditory ability to respond to criticalsituationsability to act swiftly in an emergency. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.Instruct andobserveparticipants in proper stroke techniques. Some travel and overnight trips for swim meets. Position requires bending, leaning, kneeling, walking,and swimming. Exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency. Ability to stand or sit whilemaintainingalertness for several hours at a time. Sound in environment usually loud Exposure to chemically treated water, sun, heat, cooler temperatures with air quality reflective of the chemicals used.
