The Supplier Quality Engineering function partners closely with suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure purchased materials, components, and finished devices meet quality, regulatory, and operational requirements throughout the product lifecycle.This position is based in Grand Rapids, MI and requires onsite work five (5) days per week to support supplier quality activities, manufacturing operations, and cross-functional collaboration. This role has minimal travel.As a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer, you will support supplier quality management activities for purchased materials and components used in manufacturing. This role is responsible for supplier performance oversight, investigation of supplier-related quality issues, implementation of supplier controls, and support of product and process changes to ensure compliance with quality system and regulatory requirements.Primary Responsibilities: Manage supplier quality performance and monitor supplier compliance with quality requirements for materials, components, and services.Lead investigations related to supplier quality issues, nonconforming materials, Supplier Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs), Material Review Board activities, and inspection findings.Coordinate supplier onboarding activities, including Approved Supplier List (ASL) additions and supplier setup across applicable quality and business systems.Partner with engineering and cross-functional teams to develop product acceptance strategies, supplier control plans, and quality requirements for new products and processes.Define receiving inspection requirements and support validation of internal test methods associated with supplied products.Evaluate supplier change notifications and assess potential impacts to manufacturing operations, inventory, acceptance activities, and product configurations.Apply statistical quality techniques to analyze supplier performance, identify trends, and implement corrective actions.Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other quality improvement methodologies.Required Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or technical field with 4+ years of work experience in Engineering and/or Quality OR Advanced Degree in Engineering, Science or technical field with 2+ years of work experience in Engineering and/or Quality OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience.Preferred Qualifications:Experience investigating quality issues, nonconforming products, corrective actions, or supplier-related quality concerns.Knowledge of quality systems, regulated manufacturing environments, or supplier quality processes.Ability to analyze data and apply problem-solving methodologies to support quality and process improvements.Experience in supplier quality engineering within the medical device industry or another regulated manufacturing environment.Working knowledge of Quality System Regulation (21 CFR Part 820), ISO 13485, statistical quality control methods, and Six Sigma principles.Experience with supplier controls, process validation, auditing, failure investigations, nonconforming product management, and protocol or report development.ASQ Certified Quality Auditor or ASQ Lead Auditor certification.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.Physical Job RequirementsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this position, but they are not an exhaustive list of all the required responsibilities and skills of this position. The physical demands described within the Responsibilities section of this job description are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
