Job DescriptionDewberry's Fairfax, VA office is seeking a Structural Discipline Manager to join a team of more than 120 MEPS professionals locally who are focused on professional engineering services for clients in the Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland area. A discipline manager also assists Project/Client Managers by providing engineering resources to complete projects on schedule and on budget. Our commitment to excellence stems from our personal integrity and from other defining attributes, which we call “Dewberry at Work,” that have inspired our employees to be successful for more than a half-century.ResponsibilitiesSupervisory responsibilities of a Discipline Manager include the following :Growing, mentoring, developing, and organizing staff in a way to allow for career advancement, professional development, quality client service, and operational efficiencies to meet business operations and project goals.Managing resources for the discipline area, including:Project staff assignments and prioritiesDelivery due dates for group commitmentsCurrent and Projected Workload/Capacity for DisciplineMinimum annual evaluations for each direct report.Taking a very active role in recruitment of staff in the discipline area, including networking, recruitment, interviewing and “deal closing”.Work with the design team across multiple offices and multiple disciplines, including subconsultants, to generate detailed design documents for construction plans.Providing Technical guidance and quality oversight of all project work for the discipline area.Provide 'on-the-spot' technical advice and decisions.Serve as Structural Engineer of Record for a variety of structures. Establishing/improving standards for the discipline area.Adhering to the project design schedule and budget. Regularly review and provide project managers with updates on schedules and budgets (status of the design process, tasks to complete, current percentage complete, etc.). Understand project scope and identify potential additional services.Participating in business development activities, including collaborating with our team in the marketing of new projects, proposal preparation, and client relationship management. Simply put – Discipline Managers control all production resources and all commitments must come from Discipline Managers. Conversely – accountability for our deliverables comes from the Discipline Managers.Required Skills & Required ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. Master’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (preferred).Accomplished (15+ years of experience) Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity (example, through Comity) within the State in which the position is posted within six (6) months. Must have experience in the design process, including the production of design deliverables through construction close-outCandidate must have a good working knowledge of the International Building Code, state building codes, and other related structural codes and manuals.Experience coordinating engineering work and interfacing with other disciplines and clients.Familiarity with Revit and/or AutoCAD is preferred.Experience using structural software such as RAM, RAM Elements, STAAD, Enercalc, TEDDS, or Tekla is preferred.Proficiency in MS Office software.Ability to work and thrive in a team environment.Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skillsExperience in staff management/department managementExperience in the design of various structural systemsExperience with Design/Build projects is a plus.The projected range for this position is ($158,000.00 - 204,000.00) annually.
