What You Will Do The National Criticality Experiments Research Center Facility Operation (NCERC‑FO) organization supports the execution of subcritical and critical experiments at the National Criticality Experiments Research Center (NCERC). The Deputy FOD assists the FOD with managing and maintaining safe, secure, and compliant mission execution, establishing required nuclear facility processes, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders at LANL and site contractors. Duties include: Ensure safety, security, and regulatory compliance with safety basis and authorization agreements. Determine organization objectives and interpret Laboratory policies. Develop, maintain, and improve vital Safety Management Programs, including Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance, Configuration Management/Change Control, and Quality Assurance. Ensure compliance with LANL/MSTS Safety Management Programs such as Emergency Preparedness, Hoisting and Rigging, Radiation Protection, Qualification and Training, Fire protection, and Nuclear Criticality Safety. Ensure proper communication to employees and other organizations on the implementation of operational management policies, procedures, and practices. Manage investigations following abnormal occurrences to identify and correct the cause of the event and report it per DOE and LANL directives. Define and recommend organization objectives, develop short‑term and long‑range plans, and monitor progress to assure work objectives are attained and schedules met. Review, approve, and authorize high‑hazard nuclear operations. Minimum Job Requirements Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), database‑management tools, and industry‑specific software; ability to learn new technologies quickly. Demonstrated leadership and administration in a complex, technical organization involving nuclear facility engineering or safety‑basis management. In‑depth understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and facility policies and procedures. Experience managing the implementation of Conduct of Engineering, Integrated Work Management, Quality Assurance, Training and Qualification, and Nuclear Maintenance Programs. Personnel‑management experience, including performance assessment and conflict resolution. Communication Developed and delivered written reports and presentations to customers, partner organizations, and regulatory agencies; strong communication skills and ability to interface with diverse stakeholders. Collaboration Influenced and persuaded stakeholders in sensitive or challenging situations while maintaining positive working relationships. Cooperated with others and presented technical and/or function‑specific information on projects or schedules. Technical Leadership Negotiated with customers or management on matters significant to the organization. Identified problem areas, investigated alternatives, and determined actions. Provided calm, decisive leadership during high‑pressure/high‑conflict situations, managing team stress and maintaining focus during critical incidents. Education and Experience Position requires a Bachelor of Science from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience or an equivalent combination. The position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, requiring a BS, 8 years of job‑related experience, and 4 years of nuclear‑facility related experience. Desired Qualifications Active Q clearance and HRP. Experience conducting critiques, root‑cause analysis, and lessons‑learned. Knowledge of Los Alamos National Laboratory’s organizational structure and objectives. Knowledge of JLON policies and operational experience at the NNSS. Previous experience managing nuclear‑facility operations. Risk‑management skills; investigation of alternative solutions; determination of actions to improve operations. Effective communication with senior‑level leaders at LANL, MSTS, JLON, and NFO. Location The position is located in Mercury, Nevada, at the Nevada National Security Site. Clearance Q clearance required. The position will be cleared to Q level.
