Physician Assistant II - Cardiac Surgery Outpatient - Full Time 10 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union)

The Physician Assistant (PA) II is a licensed health professional who practices medicine under the supervision of a physician. The PA II has more than three years of experience and takes a leadership role in a professional team, communicating, planning, and implementing care in collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, office support staff, and other advanced practice providers. Duties include obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, documenting findings, ordering and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests, counseling patients on preventive care, prescribing medications, and performing approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures. The PA II works under the Physician Assistant Practice Agreement and follows all rules, regulations, and certifications of medical staff and national PA regulatory bodies. Essential Duties Expertly obtain detailed and accurate medical histories and perform physical examinations, documenting findings. Develop and implement patient management plans, coordinate referrals, record progress notes, and provide continuity of care. Order appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, and radiographic studies and select therapies including PT, OT, ST, and Respiratory services. Perform and/or interpret common laboratory, radiological, cardiographic, and other routine diagnostic procedures. Perform procedures within privileges approved by medical staff. Assist with care coordination across the clinical team. Provide continuity of care for complex illnesses and injuries under physician supervision. Instruct and counsel patients—and sometimes family members—on therapeutic regimens, emotional issues, and health maintenance, particularly in the postoperative period. Refer patients to other health and social service agencies when appropriate. Ensure accurate billing for services rendered. Act as mentor or preceptor for new or student physician assistants. Participate or lead quality initiatives, process improvement projects, or research within the department or clinic. Perform any other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Minimum of 3 years of qualified PA experience. Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with physicians, staff, and patients. Strong organizational and time‑management skills. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, planning, and evaluation skills. Required Licenses/Certifications Physician Assistant – PA (California/California DCA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association. Fire Life Safety Training (Los Angeles City); must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration (required only in Los Angeles City). National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Drug Enforcement Administration Current Controlled Substance Course Certificate; obtain within 3 months of hire if not already held.
