Interventional Radiology Technologist (IR Tech)

Location: Charlotte, NC Position Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire Shift Options: Monday–Friday weekdays; 4x10-hour overnight shifts Monday–Thursday; or 3x12-hour overnight shifts Friday–Sunday Call: Backup on-call coverage required, including weekend and holiday rotations. Must be able to respond within 30 minutes when on call.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Interventional Radiology Technologist to support diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures in a fast-paced interventional radiology environment. This position assists physicians during complex vascular, stroke, trauma, angiographic, and other image-guided procedures while performing scrub, circulating, imaging, and patient-monitoring responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will have previous Interventional Radiology experience, with Cath Lab imaging experience also considered. Candidates with experience in a high-acuity trauma or comprehensive stroke environment are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians with interventional radiology, angiographic, vascular, stroke, and trauma procedures.
• Perform specialized radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Perform scrub and circulating duties throughout IR procedures.
• Prepare patients for procedures and explain the process to help ensure understanding and comfort.
• Monitor patients before, during, and following procedures.
• Prepare and obtain contrast materials, medications, and other procedural supplies as directed by authorized clinical personnel.
• Assist with vascular procedures, line placements, central lines, catheter-based procedures, and other image-guided interventions.
• Remove catheters and sheaths and apply appropriate pressure or closure techniques as directed.
• Maintain sterile technique and ensure appropriate procedural supplies and equipment are available.
• Record and process hemodynamic information and contrast documentation accurately.
• Enter required patient, procedural, and inventory information into applicable clinical systems.
• Communicate pertinent patient information to nursing units and recovery/holding areas.
• Identify equipment malfunctions and coordinate appropriate service or repair.
• Respond to emergent stroke and trauma cases as part of the procedural team.
• Participate in weekend, holiday, and backup on-call coverage as required.

Qualifications / Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology or Interventional Radiology program required.
• Current ARRT (R) certification required for Radiologic Technologist candidates.
• Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association or client required.
• Interventional Radiology experience strongly preferred.
• Cath Lab imaging experience may also be considered.
• RCIS candidates with strong invasive cardiovascular/procedural experience may be considered.
• Previous experience with stroke and trauma procedures is strongly preferred.
• Experience with vascular procedures, angiography, central lines, line placements, and other IR procedures highly desirable.
• Experience within a Level I Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, or similarly high-acuity hospital environment strongly preferred.
• Candidates should have hands-on invasive procedural experience; general diagnostic X-ray experience alone is typically not sufficient.
• Ability to scrub and circulate during invasive procedures.
• Ability to function effectively during emergencies and other high-pressure situations requiring sustained concentration.
• Must be comfortable working with both inpatient and outpatient populations, primarily adults with some pediatric cases.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while wearing approximately 10–15 pounds of lead radiation protection.
• Must be comfortable with potential exposure to radiation, blood, and bodily fluids.
• Must participate in required call, weekend, and holiday rotations and meet the 30-minute response requirement for on-call coverage.
