Job Title: Plumber / Pipefitter – Government Facilities (18-Month Project)

Shift: Mon-Fri 6am-2:30pm

Pay: $49/hr including scale

Job Description

Join a skilled plumbing and pipefitting team supporting government contracts at a military facility. You will work on a building rehabilitation project at a government installation, performing a full range of plumbing and pipefitting tasks from rough-in to final pipe work. This role offers the opportunity to apply and expand your expertise in commercial plumbing, pipe welding, and pipe fitting within a structured, safety-focused environment, with the potential to transition into a permanent position.

Responsibilities

• Perform plumbing work for a building rehabilitation project, including rough-in, installation, and finishing of piping systems.
• Install, assemble, and repair PVC and carbon steel piping for commercial plumbing systems in accordance with project specifications.
• Read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and technical documents to plan and lay out plumbing and pipefitting tasks.
• Execute pipe welding tasks, including TIG and MIG welding, to join and secure piping systems to required standards.
• Carry out structural welding activities related to pipe supports and related components as needed.
• Perform trenching and layout for underground and above-ground piping runs, ensuring proper alignment, grading, and support.
• Install, fit, and align piping, valves, and related fixtures to ensure leak-free, code-compliant systems.
• Collaborate with other trades and project team members to coordinate work and maintain project schedules.
• Follow all safety procedures and site regulations required for work on a military facility, including secure access protocols.
• Inspect completed work for quality, accuracy, and compliance with applicable codes and project requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with plumbing and piping installations during the rehab project lifecycle.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition throughout the project.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in plumbing or pipefitting.
• Strong experience as a commercial plumber working on building projects.
• Proficiency in PVC pipe installation and related plumbing systems.
• Hands-on experience in pipe fitting, including layout, cutting, threading, and assembly.
• Proficiency in pipe welding, including TIG and MIG welding techniques.
• Ability to perform structural welding on carbon steel and related materials.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings for plumbing and piping systems.
• Experience working on commercial or industrial construction projects.
• Capability to work safely and effectively within a secure government or military facility environment.
• Journeyman-level skills in plumbing or pipefitting (Journeyman credential preferred).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Journeyman plumber or pipefitter certification preferred.
• Experience working on government, military, or other secure facilities is an advantage.
• Background in both plumbing and pipefitting, with the ability to switch between tasks as project needs evolve.
• Familiarity with commercial HVAC-related piping systems is beneficial.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to adapt to changing project schedules and evolving site conditions.
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with supervisors, trades, and project stakeholders.

Work Environment

You will work on a government building rehabilitation project located on a military facility, specifically at a secure base where access authorization is required. The project is expected to last approximately 18 months, providing consistent, long-term work with the potential to move into a permanent role. The environment involves commercial construction and mechanical systems, including extensive piping, welding, and plumbing activities. Work will take place in an active construction setting, where adherence to safety standards, base regulations, and security protocols is essential. You will use tools and equipment related to plumbing, pipefitting, and welding, including TIG and MIG welding equipment, trenching tools, and standard plumbing tools. Dress and conduct must align with military base and construction site requirements, emphasizing professionalism, safety gear, and compliance with all site rules.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Patuxent River, MD.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $39.00/hr.
