The Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Payroll Specialist to join our accounting team in Rootstown, Ohio. This is not a background role -- your accuracy directly impacts every person on our team. You will own the weekly payroll process, driver settlements, and related financial activities, ensuring every employee and contractor is paid accurately and on time, every time. What You Will Do Process weekly payroll for all company personnel including timecard review, expense validation, and benefit and deduction accuracy Process daily payments to independent contractors with accurate deduction of advances, insurance, escrow, and other withholdings Maintain and reconcile independent contractor escrow and deduction accounts Respond to employee and contractor payroll inquiries professionally and promptly Review state permit data entry and complete monthly reconciliations Perform daily cash application and prepare bank deposits Assist with preparation and distribution of W-2 and 1099 forms What You Bring Associate's degree or equivalent post-secondary education 2+ years of multi-state payroll experience -- transportation payroll is a significant plus Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word -- an Excel assessment will be given Familiarity with transportation management systems -- TMW preferred Strong proficiency with accounting systems -- Great Plains preferred Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining strict confidentiality Strong interpersonal and communication skills -- written and verbal Positive attitude and professional presence Why Miller Transfer 55+ years of stability -- we have been here since 1968 and we are not going anywhere A role where your work is seen and valued -- not lost in a large corporate department Competitive hourly pay Full benefits -- medical, dental, vision,life Insurance, pharmacy, 401k with company match Consistent Monday through Friday schedule -- no nights or weekends A close-knit team that takes pride in what they do and the company they represent All candidates must pass a pre-employment hair follicle and urine drug screening.
