Assistant Project ManagerThe Assistant Project Manager is a key resource for the Project Management team to assist with successfully managing awarded projects and serving as a focal point for communication with Marek field leaders and the customer. He or she will develop customer relationships, budgets, RFIs, change pricing, labor and materials. Honesty, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and work well with colleagues is essential.He or she is responsible for learning the Marek approach to project delivery, partnering side-by-side to deliver projects on time, under budget and in line with the General Contractor and Owner.Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesBusiness DevelopmentInvests time learning the industry and who the players are, including customers and competitorsEffectively communicates Marek's market position and strengthsBuilds rapport quickly with new contacts and begins building credibility and a network of customer contactsRepresents Marek positively in the marketParticipates in customer meetings, may be alongside a more senior Marek representativeExhibits enthusiasm to engage with customers and a willingness to initiate contactCost EstimatingLearns Marek's estimating tools, technology and approach as it relates to estimating and pricing change ordersEstimates and provides pricing for work orders and change ordersDevelops base foundation of product knowledge, market structure and conditions, and drawings and specifications as they relate to estimating and pricing changes, etc.Project ManagementPartners with field leaders and customer to assist in planning pre-job, including identifying and resolving potential scope, schedule, sequence, contract, budget, safety, material staging or manpower issues, and developing appropriate internal cost code structureProactively asks questions when he or she does not understand construction documentsDevelops a fair and achievable budget for labor, material and equipment and provides the budget in a timely manner, before the job startsSubmits RFIs, prices work order or change orders and creates submittalsSolicits competitive proposals and buyout of materials, vendors and subcontractorsResponds quickly to requests and queries from both Marek field leaders and the customerEngages in regularly scheduled production look-ahead meetingsEnsures timely and effective billing and collectionsWorks side-by-side with Marek field leadership and the customer to manage ongoing labor and material costs and beat the budgetEffectively utilizes cost reporting to keep scoreIs regularly present on the job to support Marek field team and effectively navigate safety, cost and quality-impact issuesCaptures, organizes and maintains project documentation to mediate potential risk of back chargesProvides feedback throughout the lifecycle of the project to estimators to improve future estimates and bidsSafety LeadershipUnderstands and articulates Marek's safety programAttends tool box talks and stretch and flex on the jobsiteActively seeks to increase personal knowledge and understanding of safety by walking the job with Marek field, PM or safety leadersPromotes safe work practicesPrioritizes safety for Marek employees and those impacted by our workJob QualificationsExperienceExposure to or experience in commercial construction industry managing projects, preferably in general contracting or drywall and interiors, is a plusField experience a plusEducationBachelor's Degree in Construction Management or related field of study or High School Diploma/GED with equivalent work experienceSkillsKnowledge of construction practices and project management methodsStrong relationship building skillsStrong numerical and reasoning skillsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office products; specifically Outlook, Word and ExcelExperience or exposure to estimating, scheduling and/or project management technology a plus (TrueBuilt, Quick Bid, On-Screen Take-Off, project management and blueprint collaboration software such as Bluebeam, PlanGrid, etc.)Working conditionsWill work in a variety of conditions: in the office, out in the field visiting potential or active construction jobsites, and out at customer meetings, industry events, etc.Direct reportsThis position has no supervisory responsibilities for direct reports*We are an Equal Opportunity Employer*
