Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Sheet Metal Technician to perform installation and assembly of sheet metal components, panels, ducting and support structures to specification. The ideal candidate will execute field and shop installations accurately and safely, working from drawings and installation procedures to meet quality and production targets. This role supports manufacturing and maintenance activities, including aerospace projects, and requires strong installation experience and an ability to collaborate with engineers, fabricators and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform installation of sheet metal systems, components and assemblies in the shop and field using hand and powered tools, fasteners, rivets and sealants.
• Read and interpret blueprints, assembly drawings, installation instructions and engineering change notices to install components to specifications and tolerances.
• Measure, mark, cut, form and fit sheet metal parts as required for installations, and perform minor on-site adjustments to ensure correct fit and function.
• Follow established installation procedures, torque and fastening specifications, and manufacturer instructions to ensure structural integrity and airworthiness when applicable.
• Assemble and install brackets, supports, access panels, ducts, housings and enclosures; position and secure assemblies using rivets, bolts, screws, clinch fasteners and adhesives.
• Collaborate with engineers, inspectors and production teams to resolve fitment issues, implement corrective actions and incorporate design changes.
• Conduct pre- and post-installation inspections, complete installation checklists and document work performed in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean, safe and orderly condition; report defects, non-conformances and safety hazards.
• Adhere to company safety policies and applicable industry regulations (e.g., lockout/tagout, hazard communication, PPE) to maintain a safe work environment.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by suggesting installation process improvements, participating in lean events and assisting with training of junior technicians.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in installation of sheet metal components and assemblies (required).
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical school, trade certificate or apprenticeship in sheet metal, fabrication or related field preferred.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, installation drawings and basic engineering documentation.
• Skilled with hand tools and power tools used in sheet metal work (drills, rivet guns, torque tools, shears, brakes and hand files).
• Strong measuring and layout skills; able to use calipers, tape measures, protractors and templates to achieve required tolerances.
• Knowledge of common sheet metal materials, fasteners and joining methods (riveting, clinching, mechanical fastening and adhesives).
• Demonstrated commitment to quality and safety, with experience completing installation documentation and inspection records.
• Physical ability to lift and maneuver materials, work in confined spaces and at heights as required.
• Excellent problem solving, communication and teamwork skills.
• Nice-to-have: direct sheet metal fabrication experience and familiarity with shop equipment (brake press, shear, roller).
• Nice-to-have: experience in aerospace manufacturing or working to aerospace standards (AS9100, NADCAP) and awareness of airworthiness requirements.
