Initiates and provides ongoing educational and staff development activities to assure that highly competent care is delivered by all personnel within the department. Initiates and contributes to ongoing program development involving rehabilitation services.This is a full-time role. A caregiver in this position works Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 4:00pm or 10:00am to 7:00pm. 2 late nights per week and 2 mornings from 7:00am to 4:00pm will be required. Responsibilities:Provides clinical expertise in the evaluation and treatment of patients and serves as a role model to rehabilitation employees in providing direct patient care effectively and efficiently.Continually expands and updates clinical skills.Attends continuing education programs to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of therapy skills and current activity in the profession.Initiates and conducts staff development activities for the department.Develops patient treatment protocols and completes protocol revisions.Takes a leadership role in program development which may include new program planning, current program revisions, or improving systems/logistics for a particular program.Provides regular updates to the Manager, Rehabilitation Services on status of ongoing program and staff development activities.Performs an evaluation on each patient assigned to determine problems to be addressed, which may include range of motion, muscle strength, gait pattern, sensation, balance, coordination, perception, skin integrity, respiration, and determination of functional ability.Reviews patient chart for pertinent medical history and current hospital course, including test results and x-ray reports.Establishes treatment goals and formulates treatment plan based on patient evaluation.Analyzes and interprets patient's needs, based on medical history, x-rays, tests and evaluation.Reviews physician's request for treatment.May recommend revision or discontinuation based on evaluation findings.Maintains responsibility for all aspects of patient care.Monitors patient's medical status while in the department.Administers treatment using skilled techniques. Reviews and revises treatment plans as necessary as treatment program progresses.Delegates patient treatment to Physical Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapy Assistant as appropriate.Directs and supervises the activities of support personnel, while retaining direct responsibility for patient care.Performs patient evaluations and treatment planning for Physical Therapy Assistants or Occupational Therapy Assistants.Utilizes Rehabilitation Technician to assist with treatment.Educates patients and their families about the patient's functional status, appropriate preventive and therapeutic exercises, adaptive equipment, and modalities for post-discharge care.Documents required and pertinent information in patient's medical record.Reviews and cosigns progress notes written by Physical Therapy Assistant or Occupational Therapy Assistant.Accurately completes required departmental forms.Participates in multidisciplinary management of patients.Recommends appropriate ancillary services.Ensures coordination of treatment goals and discharge planning by participating in patient rounds, team meetings, patient care conferences, etc.Participates in staff development programs.Participates in education programs for Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy personnel, nursing personnel and other professional staff.Attends continuing education program to maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy skills and current activity in the profession.Supervises students assigned to clinical rotation in Department.Provides supervision of therapy students.Prepares written evaluations of student's performance.Other duties as assigned.Education: Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy.Certifications:Current Ohio licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT) or Occupational Therapist (OT).Work Experience: Minimum three years' experience as a therapist.Demonstration of clinical competence in a particular area of practice.Demonstration of leadership in program development/process improvement projects/staff and/or student development.Physical Requirements: Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling, for example, during gait training.Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm or leg during exercise program.Sensation to touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient's pulse.Visual acuity to observe patient's gross movement, gait, etc., in order to analyze biomechanical problems.Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families who may not be able to read.Ability to hear or understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.Mental ability to interpret clinical data for the establishment and implementation of appropriate patient treatment.Ability to identify and resolve problems using critical thinking and decision-thinking.Personal Protective Equipment: Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Pay RangeMinimum Annual Salary: $76,540.00Maximum Annual Salary: $116,747.50The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires.
