SPS New England, Inc., one of the leading heavy highway contractors in New England, is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform duties on Bridge and Highway construction projects.

Since 1984, SPS has been helping to rebuild New England's infrastructure. Wherever you drive throughout Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, there's a good chance you will travel down a road or over a bridge built by SPS New England.

Position Description

The Estimator will support the preparation and management of bids for heavy civil construction projects and contribute to various phases of the estimating process. Responsibilities will include bid set-up, quantity take-offs, subcontractor and vendor outreach, cost estimating, and bid close-out. The Associate Estimator will work closely with experienced estimators, project managers, and other members of the construction team to develop accurate and competitive estimates.

Project values may range from $5 million to over $2 billion , covering a variety of heavy civil infrastructure work, including Bridge, Highway, Railroad/Trackwork, and Marine Construction . Experience in these areas of heavy civil construction is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

• • Assist with preparing accurate, detailed, and timely estimates for heavy civil construction projects.
  • Review and interpret project plans, specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and assist with cost analysis for materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Request and organize subcontractor and supplier quotes and assist with quote comparisons and cost leveling.
  • Assist with developing project schedules and constructability reviews as part of the estimating process.
  • Participate in bid review meetings and assist with bid preparation and final close-out.
  • Maintain organized estimate files, historical cost information, and project data.
  • Assist project teams following contract award by providing estimate breakdowns and cost information.
  • Work closely with senior estimators and project teams to develop an understanding of construction means, methods, and sequencing.
  • Perform additional estimating and administrative duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

• • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent construction experience will be considered.
  • 2-5 years of estimating or related construction experience , preferably in heavy civil or transportation infrastructure.
  • Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, HCSS HeavyJob, Bluebeam, Agtek, Primavera P6, Procore, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Estimating or construction experience involving Bridge, Highway, Railroad/Trackwork, or Marine Construction preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction means, methods, materials, and sequencing.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new software and estimating processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
