Non-Clinical - Administrative - Surgical Scheduling Coordinator

*Facility Profile is in progress - will update facility linked to job posting once it is ready - please see location below in meantime* Job Title: Surgical Scheduler LOCATION: AHC Shady Grove Medical Center | 9901 Medical Center Drive, Rockville, MD 20850 JOB TYPE: 100% Onsite SCHEDULE: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | Assigned 8-hour shift between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM CONTRACT TYPE: Temp-to-Hire | Permanent compensation structure currently being finalized as part of a newly created department DURATION: 13 Weeks START DATE: ASAP IMPORTANT CALL OUTS: • Position is fully onsite; no hybrid or remote option available. • Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams; onsite interviews available upon request. • Newly created Surgical Scheduling department being separated from the centralized scheduling team. • High-volume, call center-style environment supporting multiple specialties. • Surgical scheduling experience is preferred; healthcare scheduling experience will also be considered. • Comprehensive training provided on department-specific workflows, Cerner, and SurgiNet processes. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: • High School Diploma or GED required. • Associate degree preferred. EXPERIENCE: • Minimum 1 year of healthcare scheduling, medical office, patient access, call center, or related healthcare experience. • Surgical scheduling experience preferred but not required. • Experience working in a high-volume phone environment preferred. • Experience supporting multiple providers, specialties, or departments is a plus. CERTIFICATIONS: • None required. TECHNICAL SKILLS: • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). • Experience with EMR/EHR systems preferred. • Cerner experience preferred but not required. • Strong computer navigation, data entry, and multitasking skills. • Ability to quickly learn new systems and workflows. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: • Excellent customer service and communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. • Comfortable handling high call volumes and patient interactions. • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. • Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and adapt to changing workflows. • Previous remote work experience is a plus. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Schedule surgical procedures across multiple specialties within the GI Suite and Main Operating Room. • Coordinate inpatient, outpatient, and short-stay surgical procedures. • Verify insurance eligibility and active coverage prior to scheduling procedures. • Ensure all required documentation is obtained and completed before procedures are scheduled. • Serve as a primary point of contact for patients, providers, and clinical teams regarding surgical scheduling. • Manage a high volume of inbound and outbound calls while providing exceptional customer service. • Accurately enter and update patient information within Cerner and other scheduling systems. • Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, and support departments to ensure efficient coordination of care. • Support scheduling needs across approximately 14 specialties and adapt to evolving department workflows. • Complete training related to specialty-specific scheduling requirements and departmental processes. • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. • Perform additional scheduling and administrative duties as assigned.
