Pittsburgh Transportation Group is seeking a full-time Routing Specialist to support our daily transportation operations. In this essential role, you'll create and manage transportation schedules, optimize routes, coordinate service coverage, and help ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services throughout our network.

Available Shifts

• Monday - Friday | 3:30 AM - 11:30 AM
• Sunday - Thursday | 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM

What You'll Do as a Routing Specialist:

Route Planning & Optimization

• Develop and manage daily transportation routes to maximize efficiency and service quality.
• Create schedules and routing plans based on customer demand, vehicle availability, and operational priorities.
• Analyze route performance and make adjustments to improve productivity and on-time service.
• Balance driver assignments and route coverage to meet service requirements.
• Identify opportunities to reduce travel time, improve efficiency, and optimize resource utilization.

Transportation Operations Support

• Monitor daily transportation activity and ensure routes are operating according to schedule.
• Adjust routing plans and schedules in response to traffic conditions, service disruptions, customer requests, or operational changes.
• Coordinate with dispatch, drivers, and operations teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Communicate route updates, schedule changes, and operational information promptly.
• Support vehicle utilization and coordinate with maintenance teams regarding vehicle availability.

Driver & Customer Coordination

• Serve as a key resource for drivers regarding route assignments, schedules, and operational updates.
• Provide drivers with accurate route information and trip details.
• Assist customers with transportation inquiries, scheduling updates, and service requests.
• Help resolve service-related concerns and routing challenges in a professional and timely manner.
• Maintain strong communication with internal departments to support operational excellence.

Reporting & Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate routing records, schedules, and operational documentation.
• Track service performance, route efficiency, and operational metrics.
• Prepare reports and provide updates to leadership as needed.
• Assist with trip modifications, cancellations, and schedule adjustments.
• Ensure routing information remains accurate, organized, and up to date.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to transportation planning and service delivery.

What We're Looking for in a Routing Specialist:

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Dependable, proactive, and team-oriented mindset.
• Strong commitment to customer service and operational excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of experience in routing, transportation operations, logistics, dispatching, scheduling, fleet coordination, or a related field.
• Experience using routing, scheduling, or transportation management software.
• Knowledge of transportation operations, route planning, and fleet logistics.
• Ability to analyze operational data and identify opportunities for improvement.
