Accounting Manager - Real Estate

Our client, a fast-growing real estate owner/manager in Westchester, is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of approximately 1,000 multifamily units. Our client can provide stability, a friendly and collaborative work environment, and growth potential to a Controller role.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee a team of 2 Accountants and lead hiring, expansion efforts
• Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of multifamily properties, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules
• Lead the month-end close process, ensuring adherence to deadlines and accuracy of reporting
• Reconcile bank accounts, operating accounts, and escrow accounts
• Review accounts payable and accounts receivable activity, including rent rolls, tenant ledgers, and collections
• Analyze variances between actual results and budget/forecast and provide explanations to management
• Collaborate with property management teams to ensure accurate coding of expenses and proper financial reporting
• Maintain and enforce internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
• Assist with preparation of budgets and reforecasts in coordination with asset management
• Support year-end audits and tax preparation by providing requested documentation and schedules
• Utilize Yardi for all accounting functions, reporting, and data integrity management
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Approximately 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably real estate audit and/or accounting
• Proficiency in Yardi or a similar software
• Solid understanding of real estate accounting principles
• Experience with month-end close and financial statement preparation
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
