Electrical Hardware Engineer

Location: Madison, WI/Hybrid Remote Compensation: Base $90K + bonus (OTE up to $150K), negotiable for the right candidate Our client is the leading innovative manufacturer of quality assurance systems for the web processing industry. The Electrical Hardware Engineer is a critical member of the R&D team, collaborating across software, firmware, and mechanical engineering teams, this role contributes to the full arc of hardware development, from initial circuit design through regulatory certification and production support. By ensuring that electrical systems are reliable, compliant, and manufacturable, this engineer plays a foundational role in the company's ability to deliver differentiated industrial control products to market.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design electronics, embedded systems, and PCBAs for industrial control equipment, collaborating cross-functionally with software, firmware, and mechanical engineers throughout the product lifecycle.
• Perform comprehensive circuit design and analysis encompassing brushed/brushless motor drives, switch-mode DC-DC power supplies, linear regulators, protection/filtering circuits, microcontroller-based embedded systems, CAN, USB, PLC interfaces, Fieldbus, Ethernet/IP, high-precision analog signal conditioning, and sensor interfaces.
• Conduct reliability, performance, power, and thermal analysis; perform FMEA; and document design rationale throughout development.
• Execute schematic capture, component library creation, complex multi-constraint PCB layouts, and generate fabrication files, BOMs, and cost/lifecycle analyses.
• Prototype, solder, assemble, and debug PCBAs; set up and execute testing; design and build test systems; and follow ESD best practices.
• Author product manuals (installation, operation, specifications) and write procedures for assembly, testing, and quality processes.
• Create wiring diagrams for product interconnects, accessories, and customer machine interfaces.
• Support production by resolving manufacturing issues, assisting continuous improvement, and working with Purchasing and vendors to select, specify, and source electrical components, cables, and wires.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineering on enclosure and packaging development for new products.
• Ensure product compliance with UL, ISO, IEC, CE, and other applicable safety, functional safety, EMC, and RoHS standards; generate regulatory documentation and facilitate certification processes.
• Address field issues and product inquiries, support new sales applications and service, and contribute to R&D efforts in ultrasonic and infrared sensor technologies.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements:

• 2+ years of electronics and embedded systems design experience, including PCBA design for production.
• Experience designing to UL, ISO, and/or IEC safety and EMC standards.
• Proficient with test equipment including digital multimeters and oscilloscopes; experienced in setting up and executing prototype and product testing.
• Ability to solder moderate surface mount and through-hole components.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a collaborative, results-driven mindset; able to work independently with excellent communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; computer literate across standard business systems.
• Preferred experience includes:
• Altium Designer
• Background in embedded industrial control systems
• Experience with product verification and validation, process validation, and product/process transfer to manufacturing

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.

Travel Requirements:

• Infrequent travel within US and internationally; less than 10%.
