Construction Inspector | Materials Testing Technician

We provide civil/site design, land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting and installation, and specialized testing services to the construction industry. All experience levels are welcome for Construction Inspectors and Material Testing Technicians, who will play a key role in our Building Construction Management/Quality Assurance division. Ongoing mentoring and training will be provided based on your experience level, with opportunities for increasing responsibility as your career interests progress. Highlights Project sites are typically within a 2‑hour radius of Columbus (Columbus is the center point of the project range/territory). A company truck can be provided, or candidates may use a personal vehicle and receive reimbursement. Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, day shift primarily (7 am–5 pm). Some Saturdays and occasional nighttime work may be required due to weather or project schedules. Responsibilities Perform construction inspection and materials testing services for vertical construction projects for municipal and private sector clients. Test, inspect, and report on concrete pours, rebar placement, soils, and other construction materials. Inspect and sample construction materials and perform calculations, plot data, and draw simple curves and graphs. Assist Engineers in the field during soil and materials investigations. Ensure that job‑site tests/observations, including quality control, quality assurance, and verifications, are performed in accordance with standard methods, project specifications, and contract documents. Conduct lab testing and observation of soils, concrete, and asphalt when required. Prepare and maintain project records and reports, and notify the Contractor or Project Engineer of non‑conforming work. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of engineering, construction, testing, and inspection principles. Knowledge of materials and lab testing – standard testing and observation methods. Ability to perform quality control initiatives and lab reporting. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Acceptable driving record. Ability to perform field testing in external conditions during difficult weather. Independent status updates and self‑management of work. Minimum Qualifications High School, Technical School, or Community College graduate. Associate Degree with 2 years of additional related work experience or Bachelor’s Degree or Certification in a related field preferred. Certifications ACI Grade I Concrete Testing Technician (preferred but not required). Physical Requirements Primary work location is in the field and requires standing for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Ability to meet productivity standards and maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with ADA, FMLA, and local standards.
