Government Account Director, National Security

About the Team OpenAI’s mission is to build safe artificial general intelligence (AGI) which benefits all of humanity. The Go To Market (GTM) team helps customers learn how to deploy our AI products across their organization, comprised of Sales, Solutions, Support, Marketing, and Partnership professionals. About the Role As a Government Sales Executive for the National Security Community, you will manage key U.S. Defense and Intelligence Community accounts in Washington, DC. The role is hybrid (three days in office per week) and requires a Top Secret clearance. Responsibilities Develop and execute comprehensive account plans for a focused set of National Security accounts. Lead customers through the AI adoption journey from consideration to successful deployment. Partner with solutions, research, and engineering teams to design and execute complex defense programs. Own and manage a national security consumption revenue target, overseeing forecasting and reporting. Analyze account metrics and provide insights to internal and external stakeholders. Monitor the national security landscape to inform product roadmaps and corporate strategies. Collaborate cross‑functionally with solutions, product engineering, government affairs, marketing, communications, business operations, finance, product management, and people operations. Support recruitment and onboarding of team members focused on defense and intelligence accounts. Foster our company culture within the National Security Community practice. Qualifications 10+ years selling commercial technology (platform‑as‑a‑service, software‑as‑a‑service, etc.) to the National Security Community. Top Secret clearance. Experience designing and executing complex deal strategies in defense or national security contexts, including government contracting, security clearances, and procurement processes. Comfort working in fast‑paced, high‑performance national security environments. Direct experience with senior national security executives and decision‑makers, with a proven network of relationships. Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical and strategic concepts clearly. Ability to lead high‑visibility customer events, briefings, and industry engagements. Skill in gathering, distilling, and processing detailed defense and intelligence market intelligence.
