Materials Manager

OverviewThe Materials Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing all Materials Management operations, including Purchasing, Courier Services, General Stores, Receiving, and Lawson inventory management systems. This position ensures efficient departmental operations, inventory control, cost containment, budget management, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and coordination of support services throughout the hospital.ResponsibilitiesDepartment Operations• Manage the Materials Management Department.• Plan, organize, and direct activities in Purchasing, Courier Service, General Stores, Receiving, and Lawson operations.• Develop departmental goals and objectives.• Establish performance and productivity standards.• Monitor departmental activities and implement improvements to enhance service and delivery efficiency.• Coordinate Materials Management activities with other hospital departments.• Keep Administration informed of departmental activities, needs, and operational issues.Inventory & Supply Chain Management• Provide Materials Management consultation for all hospital departments regarding usage, inventory control, standardization, and cost containment.• Develop and implement inventory control systems utilizing Lawson.• Maintain an effective charging system for materials and supplies through Lawson.Quality, Safety & Compliance• Develop and maintain quality assurance programs.• Develop and maintain departmental safety programs.• Participate in Product Evaluation activities.• Participate on the Environment of Care Committee.• Attend all required safety training programs.• Follow Hospital Exposure Control Plans for Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.Financial Management• Develop and prepare the annual operating budget.• Ensure the department operates within approved budget allocations.• Maintain records and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.• Apply cost-effective measures in department operations.• Manage departmental financial resources responsibly.Personnel Management• Select, orient, train, schedule, assign, direct, and supervise department personnel.• Evaluate employee performance.• Initiate or recommend personnel actions including merit increases, promotions, demotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and termination.• Promote positive employee relations.Leadership & Communication• Ensure operational excellence and quality service delivery.• Effectively communicate departmental, organizational, and industry-related information to staff.• Attend meetings and participate on committees as required.• Maintain professional growth and development.• Attend external meetings to remain informed of new programs and systems related to Materials Management.• Attain agreed-upon goals and objectives within established timeframes.Customer Service & Teamwork• Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees.• Promote effective working relationships across departments.• Work collaboratively with interdepartmental and intradepartmental teams to achieve organizational goals.QualificationsEducation• Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or allied field required.• Master's Degree preferred.Experience• Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.• Proven managerial experience required.Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities• Strong leadership and management skills.• Knowledge of purchasing, inventory control, receiving, and supply chain operations.• Experience with inventory management systems, including Lawson.• Ability to develop goals, objectives, policies, and performance standards.• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.• Knowledge of budgeting, fiscal management, and cost containment practices.• Ability to supervise, train, and develop staff.• Knowledge of quality assurance, safety programs, and regulatory compliance requirements.Physical Requirements• Must possess the physical ability to exert up to ten (10) pounds of force occasionally.• Must be able to exert less than ten (10) pounds of force frequently.• Must be able to stand and/or walk for two (2) to four (4) hours.• Must be able to sit for four (4) to six (6) hours.Job SummaryRequisition ID: 2026-39487# of Openings: 1Category: Business ProfessionalCommunity: Highlands ARH Regional Medical CenterPosition Type: Regular Full-TimeDepartment: StoresShift: Day Shift
