Cancer Care & Infusion Therapy Specialist

The Cancer Care & Infusion Therapy Specialist works independently and collaborates with Practice Coordinator and/or Manager to support complex chemotherapy regimens, treatment scheduling requirements, and maintain timely patient flow, maximize efficiency, and maximize use of the patient care area. Provides support to maintain and implement computer programs, statistics and reports for the Cancer Care Center. Responsibilities

Patient Administrative Support

• Accurately transcribes Physicians' Orders according to unit policy and completes all order-entry procedures, forms, requisitions, and communications necessary to schedule.
• Enters order-related messages, validates information, and obtains results as required to support timely and accurate patient care.
• Complex patient scheduling and placement based on treatment type, acuity, special needs, treatment duration, and available resources.
• Review and resolution of scheduling, registration, billing, coding, authorization, and insurance-related issues that may affect patient care or reimbursement.
• Monitoring daily patient flow and optimization of the infusion schedule to support efficient use of available space and resources.
• Monitoring and reconciliation of charges, orders, documentation, insurance information, and diagnosis/coding information to support accurate billing and maximum reimbursement.
• Investigating and resolving patient, physician, staff, and departmental concerns within the scope of the position and escalating issues appropriately when necessary.

Process and Systems

• Analyzing and reporting department statistics, patient volumes, utilization, and other operational metrics.
• Identifying discrepancies or trends in department data and bringing issues forward for resolution or process improvement.
• Maintaining and utilizing the department AI scheduler and troubleshooting scheduling workflow issues to support accurate and efficient patient placement.
• Monitoring department supplies and identifying ordering needs to maintain appropriate inventory and prevent disruptions in patient care.
• Assisting with the implementation of new processes, workflows, technology, forms, and system changes within the department.
• Participating in department performance improvement initiatives and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, patient flow, customer service, and revenue-cycle accuracy.

Cross Departmental

• Provides training and education to staff as needed regarding department processes, workflows, scheduling, and other administrative functions.
• Collaborate with Patient Accounting, Patient Registration, and Health Information Management to assure accuracy of charges, insurance information, billing and diagnosis codes and documentation to achieve maximum reimbursement.
• Serving as a resource to staff and referring offices regarding office processes, scheduling, registration, billing, documentation, and other administrative workflows, without assuming formal supervisory responsibilities.
• Participate in ongoing professional development activities such as workshops, conferences, and institutional training programs.
• Support reporting efforts for leadership and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information according to established practice policies and government regulations, such as HIPAA.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

• High school and/or equivalent required.
• Two (2) years' experience in clinical (direct patient care) and/or medical (administrative patient support) required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Excellent computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organization, time management skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to remain calm in stressful/difficult situations while demonstrating sensitivity and compassion in all patient interactions.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Maintaining a high level of confidentiality and appropriately handling sensitive patient, financial, and departmental information.
