Description Summary: The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, train, and make workflow recommendations. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge and decontaminate specimens, update patient information, and other related tasks. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients, and demonstrate technique using straight or butterfly needles. Understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport. Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place them in appropriate containers, accurately label them, and follow all specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required. Minimum of 6 months’ experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 1 year of experience in phlebotomy. #J-18808-Ljbffr
