Duties

Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.

Perform assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds.

Assist higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.). Assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings. Communicate audit results to supervisor.

Prepare and complete remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Review shift reports and count funds collected; Investigate and proactively resolve routine or recurring discrepancies, and track overages, shortages, and errors.

Inventory and/or restock fee program supplies and assist with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies as needed.

Carrying out a wide variety of clerical and technical assignments that involve the application of fee program knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices of fee collection.

Depending on duty station, this may be a career-seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions.

Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season can be variable due to project requirements or weather conditions.

Harper Ferry, WV: You will work from approximately mid-February to mid-January of the following year. There will be a projected maximum of 2 pay period furlough (non-pay time) for these positions.
