As a Consultant, you will serve as a trusted advisor and primary relationship lead for assigned clients, delivering strategic guidance across health and welfare benefit programs. This full-time, exempt role is responsible for managing client relationships, advising on benefit plan strategy, evaluating carrier and vendor solutions, and supporting the successful execution of renewals, implementations, open enrollment, compliance initiatives, and ongoing service needs. The Consultant also prepares and presents monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, conducts financial and trend analysis, reviews contracts and performance standards, and partners with internal team members to deliver high-quality, timely, and proactive client support.
Principal accountabilities include developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, carriers, and vendor partners; serving as the subject matter expert on health and welfare benefits, carrier/vendor products, and market solutions; acting as the primary consultant for assigned clients, anticipating needs and identifying strategic solutions; negotiating terms, conditions, coverage limits, and pricing with carriers and wholesalers; reviewing RFPs, insurance plan analyses, carrier contracts, policies, and differentiators, and recommending renewal actions; understanding and articulating alternative funding strategies, including self-funded and fully funded opportunities; preparing and presenting consultative reporting and analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for assigned clients; conducting financial, utilization, and trend analysis, including quarterly analysis for existing large clients; developing and maintaining project plans, renewal timelines, and outstanding checklist items to ensure timely delivery of client work; working with leadership to develop and execute client strategy plans and defined deliverables; overseeing implementations of new business and supporting open enrollment strategy, employee presentations, and communication materials; providing contract review, compliance support, and legislative guidance, including COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, Section 125, and Health Care Reform; keeping clients informed of relevant industry trends, market developments, and state and federal regulatory changes; conducting and presenting annual client compliance audits and interpreting plan rules to ensure alignment with plan documents and summary plan descriptions; serving as a liaison for service, billing, eligibility, and vendor-related issues, and providing proactive customer service and HR support; preparing meeting summaries, coordinating follow-up items with internal team members and external partners, and supporting communication, education, and wellness initiatives; delegating work effectively to team members, reviewing Account Manager work as appropriate, and providing informal mentorship and guidance; and ensuring marketing spreadsheet terms, client records, files, databases, and CRM data are accurately maintained and documented in a timely manner.
Desired skills include knowledge of benefits administration, HealthCare Reform, industry trends, carrier products and services; ability to work independently and anticipate client and team needs; effective time management and decision-making skills; diligent follow up skills; ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications; strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills; commanding presentation and public speaking abilities; exceptional written, oral, interpersonal communication skills; advanced MS Office skills, to include excel, word, power point; strong client development and relationship building skills; ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
Desired qualifications include 5+ years direct client management experience in the employee benefits industry, BA/BS preferred. Licensing/Certifications: Resident state Life and Health Insurance License.

The base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
