Patent Counsel – Engineering (2+ years) Location: Multiple offices across the U.S. (Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, San Antonio, San Francisco, St. Louis, Washington, D.C.) A leading global law firm is seeking a Patent Counsel to join its established and growing Patents practice, with a focus on high-value patent prosecution across advanced and emerging technologies. This is an opportunity to work with sophisticated clients on the development and management of complex patent portfolios, particularly within cutting-edge areas such as wireless communications and artificial intelligence. The team is known for its technical depth, collaborative culture, and strong client relationships across a range of industries. The firm offers a well-supported environment with clear progression pathways, including advancement to Senior Counsel and potential long-term consideration for partnership. Key Responsibilities Drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a range of complex technologies Advising clients on patent strategy, portfolio development, and lifecycle management Working closely with clients to build and maintain long-term IP strategies Supporting innovation across areas such as wireless technologies, AI, and advanced computing systems Requirements Minimum of 2+ years’ patent prosecution experience Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field Registered with the USPTO (or eligible to register) Admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction (or eligible to waive in) Strong technical background in areas such as 5G, Wi-Fi, AI, processor and memory systems, image processing, or RF front-end technologies Excellent academic credentials with strong analytical and communication skills Additional Experience (Preferred) Experience managing and developing client patent portfolios Exposure to technologies such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, natural language processing, wireless communications, or computer vision Compensation $225,000 - $315,000 for key markets including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Denver, with variation across other locations depending on market conditions, plus a discretionary bonus.
