About the Position

Job Title: RN - Critical Care Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Center Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 3 years of ICU experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS; NIHSS preferred Must-Have: Vent/trach management, invasive line management (art lines, CVP, Swanz), drains, chest tubes, foley management, post-surgical recovery, post-cath experience, CVVH, CRRT. Description: Critical care unit with a total of 17 beds. The average patient census is managed daily. Common patient diagnoses include sepsis, alcohol use disorder, intravenous drug abuse, overdose, suicidal ideation, delirium, gastrointestinal bleeds, strokes with TPA, acute renal failure, COVID-19, and diabetic ketoacidosis. Surgical cases include general surgeries, open abdominal procedures, orthopedic total joints, ENT, and Client. Cardiac and vascular procedures consist of femoral-popliteal bypass, coronary artery bypass grafting, endovascular aortic repair, heart valve surgeries, post-catheterizations (both radial and femoral approaches), abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs, and amputations. No complex neuro cases are managed. Patient ratios are 1:2, based on acuity levels. Support staff includes two CNAs during the day shift and one at night, as well as a receptionist and a charge nurse with occasional patient assignments. An ICU supervisor is available Monday through Friday. Phlebotomy services are available for peripheral IV draws. An educator is on staff, along with respiratory therapy coverage 24/7. Clientists and intensivists are also available 24/7. There is an ICU-specific pharmacist present during the day. The facility utilizes the EPIC electronic medical record system and Alaris IV pumps. Medication dispensing is managed through Pyxis, and NxStage CRRT is used for unit-specific equipment. Floating is possible within the scope of practice, including intermediate units, medical-surgical units, emergency department boarding, and observation units. Orientation includes one day to cover badge access, computer-based learning, login access, and a meet and greet with the nurse manager. Weekend rotations are required every other week. Holiday expectations are set for one holiday per contract. Requests for time off must be approved through management. Scheduling follows a four-week increment cycle. Scrub colors may be any color, but camouflage, graphics, logos, or designs are prohibited. Excessive sick calls may prompt a discussion and evaluation of the contract, potentially leading to termination.
