About the Job
We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Corporate Counsel to serve as a strategic partner to our growing legal team. This individual will have an immediate opportunity to support the legal operations, contracting, and regulatory functions. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of law firm and in-house experience, specifically within high-growth companies, and will possess the agility to advise on a broad scope of legal and business topics.
In this role, you will own assigned litigation matters; negotiate commercial agreements, ensure ongoing privacy compliance, preparing responses to regulators and law enforcement, and managing employment matters. Extensive experience within the fintech and cryptocurrency sectors is a major plus.
Responsibilities
- Commercial Contracting: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of complex commercial agreements, including client services agreements, vendor contracts, and strategic partnership agreements.
- Privacy & Data Protection: Serve as the legal lead for privacy law compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA), ensuring data protection standards are integrated into our infrastructure and internal processes.
- Government & Regulatory Inquiries: Manage the end-to-end process for responding to subpoenas, law enforcement requests, and regulatory inquiries, including drafting responsive documentation and corresponding with senior government officials.
- Employment Law: Provide strategic legal advice to the People team on a range of employment matters, including hiring practices, employee relations, and adherence to internal policies and standards.
- Regulatory Advisory: Provide legal guidance on financial regulations, AML/KYC requirements, and cryptocurrency-specific legislation.
- International & Strategic Growth: Monitor and analyze international legal developments to support our global expansion and advise on the impact of foreign regulations on company operations.
- Risk Management: Assist in managing legal risks, including potential litigation, and conduct legal research to provide training to internal stakeholders on evolving legal topics.
Requirements
- Education & License: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active admission to the bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Experience: Minimum of 4–6 years of legal experience, with a significant portion spent in an in-house environment.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Proven track record in commercial drafting, privacy law, and navigating financial or fintech regulations.
- Inquiry Handling: Direct experience managing subpoenas and government requests.
- International Perspective: Experience navigating international law and cross-border regulatory frameworks.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the "ownership" mindset required to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
