Job Brief Program Officer – Lead Poisoning Prevention Program Program Overview Vital Strategies is expanding its Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, strengthening health systems in low‑ and middle‑income countries to reduce childhood lead exposure. Job Purpose This role supports the global technical team in designing, implementing, and evaluating lead surveillance systems and advising governments on lead poisoning prevention. Location & Compensation New York City tri‑state area, hybrid schedule (in‑office at least two days per week). Salary: $70,000–$80,000. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Duties and Responsibilities Support program leadership in developing and refining global templates, toolkits, and technical guidance for partner countries. Collect and document country experiences to inform survey instruments and field protocols. Conduct scoping reviews, maintain key databases, and share updates in lead poisoning prevention. Ensure consistency and accuracy of technical content across program materials. Assist in coordinating technical trainings for country teams, tracking progress and gathering feedback. Plan and organize training sessions and knowledge‑sharing activities with internal and external experts. Identify ongoing training needs based on feedback and priorities. Provide ad‑hoc technical and operational support to country teams. Draft and edit technical reports, program documentation, and knowledge products. Liaise with program communications staff for report design, production, and dissemination. Assist in compiling documentation for internal reports, donor communications, and broader dissemination. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Global Health, or related field (Master’s preferred). Five or more years of professional experience in global public health, environmental health, or public health surveillance. Experience in professional/scientific writing, technical documentation, and presentations. Experience supporting program implementation, coordination, or technical assistance in multi‑country or complex stakeholder settings. Skills & Abilities Technical writing and documentation skills. Organizational and coordination skills. Research, analytical, literature review, and knowledge repository maintenance. Support development/adaptation of technical tools for diverse contexts. Effective communication and interpersonal collaboration. Logistical support for trainings and knowledge sharing. Attention to detail in reviewing technical content. Familiarity with public or environmental health concepts, e.g., lead exposure. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with knowledge management or data tracking tools. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with epidemiologic study designs and public health surveillance systems. Experience with statistical or data analysis software such as R or Stata. Experience with donor‑funded programs. Experience working in or supporting low‑ and middle‑income country programs. Experience with training design, facilitation, or adult learning approaches. Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%. Comfortable working across multiple time zones and flexible schedule.
