Position Overview
Our organization is in search of a part-time Otolaryngologist to join the Surgical Services Department, reporting directly to the Chief of Surgery. The Otolaryngologist will be responsible for delivering comprehensive Otolaryngology services within the VA system, adhering to their clinical privileges, and ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic health record. This role requires independent practice, utilizing professional judgment and expertise.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver a complete spectrum of medical, procedural, and surgical care in general Otolaryngology for adult patients.
- Conduct thorough reviews of medical histories and perform detailed physical examinations.
- Interpret laboratory and diagnostic findings.
- Diagnose Otolaryngology-related conditions and assist in or perform procedures in both operating and clinical settings.
- Evaluate and treat diseases affecting the Ear, Nose, and Throat, along with surgical conditions.
- Carry out screening examinations and complete history and physicals (H&P) and progress notes.
- Perform basic diagnostic procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the patient care processes within the Department of Veterans Affairs and the medical center's records system (CPRS).
- Utilize computerized medical records efficiently and promptly.
- Continuously enhance skills across all areas of practice, including outpatient clinics.
- Demonstrate sensitivity in interactions with patients and their families.
- Facilitate effective communication between physicians and nursing staff to ensure seamless patient transitions.
- Participate in mandatory meetings and any assigned focus groups.
This is a part-time position, with the specific work hours to be determined collaboratively between the Physician and their Supervisor.
Compensation and Benefits- Pay: Compensation will be prorated for part-time status.
- Paid Time Off:
- Accrual of paid annual leave based on hours worked, starting from the first day.
- Accrual of paid annual sick leave based on hours worked, with no limit on accrual, starting from the first day.
- Paid federal holidays, contingent on the work schedule.
- Retirement:
- Eligibility for a traditional federal pension after five years of service.
- Participation in a federal 401K plan with contributions of up to 5% from the organization.
- Insurance: Access to federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance options, many of which can be carried into retirement.
- Licensure: Must possess one full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.
- Continuing Medical Education (CME): Potential reimbursement of up to $1,000 per year (eligibility requires full-time status and board certification).
- Malpractice Coverage: Comprehensive liability protection with tail coverage included.
- Contractual Terms: No formal Physician Employment Contract and minimal restrictions on moonlighting.
- Recruitment/Relocation Incentive: May be available.
- Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): This role qualifies for the EDRP, which offers student loan repayment assistance. Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria and submit their application within four months of starting. Approval and award amounts (up to $200,000) will be determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review.
