Lab Technician

Lab Technician Location: 2057 Builders Place, Columbus, OH 43204, USA. Regular (US Only) Company: MERIEUX NUTRISCIENCES Purpose (Objective) The incumbent prepares samples for processing and maintains documentation of the process to facilitate testing procedures. Responsibilities Prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending. Write identification onto plates so that client and sample numbers can be tracked. Pipette sample solutions into tubes or plates according to the analysis protocol. Pour agar into plates or tubes to initiate the growth process. Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified time and temperature. Prepare media and broth for pathogen testing as required. Ensure media and materials are ready for the next testing sequence. Maintain knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) required to complete job responsibilities. Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis. Read plates and tubes to determine the number of organisms in the sample. Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes. Perform housekeeping duties promptly to keep work areas and equipment clean and sanitized. Participate in cleaning schedules and maintain retained samples as required. Adhere to all safety policies. Assume responsibility to support laboratory management in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the management system. Perform other related tasks as needed. Your Profile HS Diploma and 1+ year relevant work experience. Basic knowledge of science to accurately perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results. Basic knowledge of personal computers to enter testing data and results. Basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies. Planning skills to maintain supplies of analysis materials and ensure analysis is completed within specified time. Required Skills Time management and ability to prioritize samples and tasks in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail. Analytical skills essential to complete analysis procedures and determine microorganism concentration. General knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System required to process client data. Physical dexterity for manipulating samples. Work Environment The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur. Safety equipment such as gloves, laboratory coat, and eyeglasses may need to be worn. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily to complete analysis. Continuous lifting of analysis materials weighing up to 50 pounds is necessary. The incumbent will spend extended time standing and needs to detect slight variations in color shades. Schedule Monday - Friday, day shift; occasional rotating weekend day if needed. Compensation $20.00/hour USD. Benefits Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
