Senior Tax Accountant

Trueline's client, a growing public accounting firm known for high-quality client work and a relaxed, team-oriented environment, is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join their Des Moines, IA team. This is an opportunity for an experienced tax professional who wants meaningful client exposure, review and mentoring responsibilities, and challenging work without the grind and bureaucracy of a large firm. What You\'ll Do as the Senior Tax Accountant: Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, and other business entities Manage tax engagements from information gathering through completion, keeping projects accurate and on schedule Work directly with clients to answer questions, explain tax matters, and identify planning opportunities Research federal and state tax issues and help clients navigate notices and other tax matters Review financial information and identify issues, opportunities, or areas requiring additional attention Support accounting and financial statement work when needed Review work prepared by other team members and provide constructive feedback Help train and develop less-experienced tax and accounting staff Build trusted, long-term relationships with clients Stay current on changing tax laws and translate those changes into practical guidance Must-Haves as the Senior Tax Accountant: Approximately 5+ years of tax experience, ideally within public accounting Strong experience preparing individual and business tax returns Working knowledge of federal and state income tax requirements Ability to independently manage multiple client engagements and deadlines Confidence communicating directly with clients Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to work primarily in-office in Des Moines Nice-to-Haves as the Senior Tax Accountant: Active CPA or EA credential Experience reviewing returns prepared by other tax professionals Strong partnership and S corporation tax experience Tax planning and research experience Previous experience training or mentoring junior staff Experience with platforms such as CCH Axcess, UltraTax, QuickBooks, or QuickBooks Online Bachelor\'s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline Our Client Offers: Competitive compensation plus a generous bonus structure Employer-sponsored health insurance 3% SIMPLE IRA match Paid vacation and sick time Additional firm-wide time off throughout the year Every other Friday off outside of tax season Tax-season hours capped around 55 hours per week CPA exam materials and exam fee reimbursement A relaxed, results-focused environment where people are trusted to get their work done Exposure to high-quality client work typically associated with larger firms, within a close-knit team of approximately 10 people Opportunity to take on additional responsibility as the firm continues to grow Potential flexibility for an exceptional hire once established in the role Trueline and its clients are unabashed equal-opportunity employers committed to a diverse workforce.
