Co-Occurring Specialist Full time, 40 hours per week. Location: Washington, NJ. Salary: $60,000.00 to $65,000.00 annually. Work hours: Monday–Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm. Position Overview: As part of a multi-disciplinary core services team, provides highly individualized services for enrollees who have co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders. Assesses history and current needs of the person served in the areas of mental health and substance use. Works with the person served and the team to develop integrated mental health and substance use treatment goals and interventions. Provides clinical leadership for PACT staff in the area of co-occurring treatment. Essential Job Functions: Team member in frequent monitoring and assessment of the mental health status of people served, including family, home, and community settings. Development of substance abuse assessment, comprehensive assessment, and individualized recovery plan, ensuring timely documentation in compliance with DMHAS/Medicaid standards. Participation in clinical and non-clinical team meetings, including individual supervision, and seeking monthly supervision from a supervisor. Teaching skills to support each person’s recovery journey and community integration. Providing group and individual treatment modalities as needed. Stage-wise treatment focusing on identification of substance use effects and patterns, integrating the Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment model. Use of motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral interventions, and teaching strategies. Assistance with recognition of interactive effects of substance abuse, psychiatric symptoms, and psychotropic medications. Development of motivation for decreasing substance use, increasing coping skills, and alternative strategies to minimize use. Relapse prevention planning and assistance with attending recovery or self-help meetings. Information about the use of alcohol, tobacco, prescribed medications, and other drugs of abuse, and their impact on major life areas. Appropriate referrals/linkages to addiction services beyond the scope of PACT. Information about eating disorders, gambling, overspending, and sexual/other addictions as needed. Development of WRAP and Psychiatric Advance Directives. Use of evidence-based practices including motivational interviewing, IDDT, CBT, IMR, trauma-informed care, permanent supportive housing, and career development for individuals with co-occurring disorders. Technical assistance and education to team members in co-occurring disorders, developing materials and strategies for individual and group interventions. Assessment of service recipients’ mental illness symptoms and medication side-effects during observed self-administration and ongoing contact. Medication education to both individuals and family/ significant others with service recipient consent. Coordination of services with community mental health and non-mental health providers, and other medical professionals. 24‑hour on-call coverage on a rotating schedule, responding immediately to individuals by phone or in person. Rapid and flexible crisis response, including accompaniment to local screening center or psychiatric emergency service. Support to the service recipient’s family and social network to manage symptoms, reduce stress, and promote wellness, with education to foster positive, supportive relationships. Requirements: Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health field. CADC/LCADC required in accordance with the Alcohol and Drug Licensing and Certification Act, N.J.S.A. 45:2D-1 et seq. Experience: Minimum of two years of experience providing dual disorder/co-occurring services to individuals with co-occurring serious and persistent mental illness and substance abuse. Driver’s License/Vehicle: Valid driver’s license required. No more than one moving violation within the past 12 months. Vehicle required. Benefits: $5,000 Sign‑on Bonus.
