Custom Home Superintendent – Job Description

Mallis Workshop is seeking a full-time Jobsite Superintendent for our Los Angeles-based construction team. In this role, you will lead on-site operations for complex residential builds, managing multiple luxury projects with budgets between $1M and $20M. You will be responsible for fostering professional relationships with homeowners, architects, and contractors while providing a premium, "white-glove" construction experience. Success in this position requires a deep appreciation for high-end craftsmanship, rigorous attention to detail, and the sophistication to navigate the needs of discerning clients and specialty trade partners.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Scheduling

• Manage day-to-day field operations for custom homes typically ranging from $1M–$10M+ in construction value
• Develop and maintain detailed phase schedules coordinating specialty subcontractors and vendors
• Anticipate long-lead items (custom windows, stone, millwork, fixtures) and manage procurement timelines
• Sequence work to protect finished surfaces and preserve quality throughout the build

Quality & Craftsmanship

• Hold all work to the highest standards of fit, finish, and detail — well above typical residential or production-build expectations
• Inspect and approve all rough and finish work including custom millwork, ornamental iron, natural stone, plaster, and specialty ceilings
• Identify deficiencies early and require correction before subsequent trades begin
• Maintain a detailed punch list process from framing through final delivery

Client & Design Team Relations

• Serve as an on-site representative for the homeowner, architect, and interior designer
• Conduct regular owner and design team site walks with professionalism and clear communication
• Translate architect and designer intent into field execution — understanding that aesthetic decisions are as important as structural ones
• Handle client requests, questions, and concerns with patience, discretion, and confidence

Subcontractor Management

• Help with recruiting, vetting, and managing best-in-class specialty trade partners
• Communicate exacting expectations for quality and schedule upfront and hold subcontractors accountable
• Resolve field conflicts without compromising design intent or client relationships

Documentation & Administration

• Maintain thorough daily logs, photo documentation, and inspection records
• Manage RFIs, submittals, and material approvals in coordination with the Project Engineer and Project Manager
• Track selections, and substitutions with precision
• Document all change orders clearly and promptly

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years of residential construction experience, with at least 4–5 years supervising luxury custom homes
• Demonstrated portfolio of completed custom homes with high-end finishes and complex architectural details
• Deep knowledge of finish carpentry, custom cabinetry, stone and tile work, plaster systems, and luxury mechanical/electrical/plumbing scopes
• Ability to read and interpret complex architectural, structural, and interior design drawings
• Strong interpersonal skills — comfortable interacting directly with high-net-worth homeowners and their representatives
• Valid driver's license

Preferred

• Familiarity with LEED, green building, or net-zero construction for high-performance custom homes
• Proficiency with project management software (Procore) and scheduling tools
