Human Resources Generalist

Position Summary The Human Resources Generalist supports daily HR operations across California and Arizona, with primary responsibility for administrative and employee lifecycle functions while partnering closely with the HR Manager. This role ensures compliance with multi-state labor laws, maintains accurate HR records, and supports recruiting, onboarding, training coordination, benefits administration, and employee relations initiatives. Based in Mesa, Arizona, this role provides both onsite and remote support to the Mesa HR function and field operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, bilingual (English/Spanish preferred), and experienced in HR systems, compliance, and workforce support within a multi-site environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities HR Administration & Compliance Maintain accurate and compliant employee records, including personnel files, I-9 documentation, and benefits records. Manage HRIS data entry, reporting, file maintenance, and documentation tracking. Generate reports to support HR operations, compliance efforts, audits, and leadership decision-making. Ensure compliance with federal, California, and Arizona employment laws, including wage and hour regulations, E-Verify requirements, and applicable OSHA/Cal/OSHA standards. Track employee certifications, licenses, and training requirements to maintain compliance. Assist with internal audits and preparation for external compliance reviews. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and company information at all times. Recruiting & Onboarding Support full-cycle recruiting activities, including job postings, candidate communications, interview scheduling, and onboarding. Coordinate new hire onboarding and ensure completion of required employment documentation and compliance requirements. Maintain recruitment records and support workforce planning initiatives. Benefits Administration Administer and track employee benefits eligibility and enrollment. Process benefit changes related to qualifying life events and special enrollments. Assist employees with benefit questions and provide education regarding available insurance plans and benefit programs. Support annual open enrollment activities, including employee communications, system updates, and enrollment tracking. Performance Management & Employee Relations Train and support supervisors on HR systems related to performance management, employee documentation, and policy acknowledgments. Maintain accurate records of performance reviews, disciplinary actions, coaching discussions, and performance improvement plans. Serve as a primary point of contact for employee HR-related inquiries. Support employee relations matters by gathering information, maintaining documentation, and escalating concerns as appropriate. Assist with translating HR communications, policies, and materials for Spanish-speaking employees as needed. Training & Employee Engagement Coordinate required training programs, including safety, compliance, and professional development training. Maintain training records and monitor completion rates. Support employee engagement initiatives, communication programs, and organizational culture activities. Coordinate company events, employee appreciation activities, and company-sponsored fundraising events. Administrative & Operational Support Provide administrative support to HR and operations teams, including scheduling, reporting, and document management. Support safety initiatives through tracking, scheduling, and documentation efforts. Identify opportunities for process improvements within HR systems and workflows. Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 3 to 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably within multi-site and/or multi-state organizations. Working knowledge of California and Arizona employment laws and compliance requirements. Experience with HRIS platforms, applicant tracking systems (ATS), and employee records management. Strong administrative, organizational, and recordkeeping skills with exceptional attention to detail. Preferred Bilingual in English and Spanish. Experience supporting construction, industrial, manufacturing, or field-based workforces. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or equivalent HR certification, or currently pursuing certification. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of HR operations, employment law compliance, benefits administration, recruiting, and employee lifecycle management. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HR information systems. Strong attention to detail with excellent documentation and follow-through skills. Ability to effectively communicate with employees, supervisors, and stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Ability to operate computers, tablets, and mobile devices for employee support, reporting, and operational coordination. Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
