Surgical TechnicianA Surgical Technician assists in the care and preparation of surgical patients as assigned and directed under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse with consideration of the aging process, human development stages, and cultural diversity. Assist in the care and preparation of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.Promotes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.Prepares surgical suites as required for specific procedures.Assist in the care and preparation of surgical patients.Cleans and prepares surgical suits between cases.Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization.Gives appropriate pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients and significant others.Prepares preference cards for new physicians and/or procedures.Utilizes ongoing assessment data and notifies physician/surgeon of changes in patient's condition in a timely and appropriate manner.Is flexible and available for an on-call schedule.Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related informationMaintain orderly condition of assigned work area.Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department specific policies and procedures.Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.Displays accountability for actions and decisions for the total patient care process.Completes assigned daily duties.Accepts reassignment to other units if necessary.Follows expected work practices.Displays thoroughness and accuracy of work.Works in a safe manner, including reporting unsafe equipment or environment.Well organized, accepts assignments willingly and accomplishes them quickly.Anticipates problems and suggests solutions.Helps as needed with duties not specifically assigned.Works steadily and always keeps busy.Maintain knowledge and skills necessary to communicate, teach and interact with patients, visitors, and staff in the following age groups: Infant, Pediatric/adolescent, Adult, & GeriatricAbility to work well with a diverse work team.Ability to work under pressure with time constraints.Ability to concentrate.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Good mental health and emotional maturityGood personal grooming and hygieneAbility to acquire and maintain current knowledge in nursing practice.Displays knowledge of sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, and proceduresDemonstrates knowledge and practices of Universal PrecautionsRecognizes and respects the individual emotional, social, and cultural needs of Residents, including their religious beliefs.Always preserves the dignity and respect of all patients.Assists with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of work and storage areas.Possession of a genuine interest and concern for patient population that is served.Professional RequirementsCompletes and maintains all required education and/or training requirements.Complies with HIPAA regulations and always maintains patient confidentiality.Follows and maintains all lawful safety, health requirements, and regulations, and follow protocols for required protective equipment (PPE).Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury, or illness, near misses, etc. in SafetyZone.Follows Hillsboro Health Standards of Behavior.Education and/or ExperienceProficient oral and written communicationCompletion of accredited Surgical Technician program1 year hospital surgical experience preferred.Scrub Tech Certification preferred.Certificates and LicensesBasic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.Physical DemandsPhysical demands of the position, including vision, hearing, repetitive motion, and environment are required.
