Job Title: Bus MonitorEmployer: County of ChesterSalary: $16.78 HourlyLocation: Government Services Center - Westtown, PAJob Type: Full Time, Non ExemptWeekly Hours: 40 Shift 6-10am, 2:30-6:30pm split shiftSummaryThe Bus Monitor provides assistance to the Driver with the transportation of passengers by managing rider conduct and ensuring safety while following all applicable Federal, state, and local rules and regulations. The individual in this position will provide daily assistance on assigned routes by maintaining order on vehicles.Essential DutiesAssists Driver in maintaining order on paratransit vehicle; monitors and assists passengers while vehicle is in operationManages passenger behavior objectively and in a non-confrontational mannerAssists with passenger loading / unloading and seating arrangements as requiredAssists driver with vehicle and passenger emergencies in a calm, appropriate mannerMaintains current knowledge of emergency procedures and assists Driver with the administration of first aid, if necessaryAssists Driver with keeping the vehicle cleanEstablishes and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; exercises tact and courtesy when interacting with othersMeets regular time and attendance standardsPerforms other duties as may be required or assignedQualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & ExperienceRequired Skills, Knowledge & Experience: Education: This position does not require a high school diploma or GED. Previous experience working with individuals with special needs and/or children is highly desirable. Experience: This position requires the following general knowledge:Customer service and public relations principlesSafety practices concerning public transportation, specifically paratransitApplicable Federal, State and Local laws, rules, and regulationsQualifications / Requirements:Ability to coordinate with Driver to maintain order and safety of passengers aboard the vehicleAbility to understand and relate to children and/or individuals with special needsAbility to maintain confidential informationCommunication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with passengers, drivers, supervisor, and the public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work directionExcellent verbal and interpersonal skillsAbility to work extended hours, as necessaryMeets regular time and attendance standardsPerforms other duties as may be required or assignedAdditional InformationRelevant background checks, clearances, physicals, drug tests, and any other assessments or evaluations will be conducted after an offer of employment is given per County policy.Computer Skills Required: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have at minimum:Basic Internet skillsPhysical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, an individual is frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. Occasionally, an individual will need to bend at the waist while working and climb stairs. On rare occasions, the individual will need to reach or work with arms above shoulders, kneel, stoop, crouch or squat. The specific vision requirement listed for this position is:Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)Work Environment: Duties will typically be performed within a paratransit vehicle (where the noise level is moderate to loud) and/or outdoors, which may necessitate dealing with excessive heat or cold and/or moderate to loud noise levels.Certificates / Licenses / Clearances Required: Yes.
