Job Summary #CA-KN This position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities and qualifications which may be required of the employee assigned to the position. This position is responsible for assisting with patientcare in close working relationships with the surgical team. Under supervision, the position provides technical support to the perioperative care of patients that includes, but is not limited to, quality control and maintenance of safe and functioning equipment and instrumentation, operation of video endoscopy systems, navigational image guided systems, microscopes, lasers, Integrated Operating Room Technology, and other complex medical devices and systems. The service areas include, but not limited to, the Pavilion O.R., Main Two O.R., Children's Surgery Center, and Same Day Surgery Center. Incumbent also recommends cost reduction initiatives and assists in implementing efficiency improvement activities. Subject matter expert in the clinical setting for Integrated Surgical Suite/Integrated O.R. video routing and display. Comprehensive knowledge of control systems and all its functionality, including routing of endoscopes, microscopes, lights, cameras, C-arms, PACS, Vitals, Ultrasound and all other video and data sources. Apply By Date: 9/10/2026 at 11:59 pm - Interviews and recruiting process may occur at any time Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position Current Surgical Technologist certification through a recognized governing body (e.g., NBSTSA/CST or equivalent). American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR. Laser Safety Certification required within six (6) months of hire. Robotic Surgery Certification required within six (6) months of hire. Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training in Surgical Technology. Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience as a Surgical Technologist in a Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Center Main Operating Room, with demonstrated competence supporting high-acuity and complex surgical procedures. Proven ability to work with sophisticated surgical equipment, integrated OR systems, and evolving technologies, including troubleshooting and coordination with clinical and technical teams. Demonstrated experience supporting complex surgical procedures and advanced technical systems, including but not limited to; laser procedures, microscope-assisted surgery, endoscopic procedures and/or robotic-assisted. surgery. OR Equipment Specialist I is a developmental classification. Incumbents are expected to learn and perform the full scope of OR Equipment Specialist duties under training and supervision. While in the OR ES I level, the employee is not required to take independent on call assignments. Advancement to OR Equipment Specialist II occurs upon successful completion of training and demonstration of independent operational competency and readiness to function solo, including on call responsibilities. Demonstrates advanced knowledge in preparation and hands on assisting physician in routine and advanced Adult/Pediatric cases. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of Scope High Level Disinfection and Scope culturing. Demonstrates advance knowledge of OR Robotic Surgery. Demonstrate knowledge of different PPE requirements for different type of procedures/chemicals handling. Demonstrate ability to work under pressure with physician during emergent situations and offer ideas and possible solutions that can potentially bring positive outcome for the patient. Demonstrates responsible behavior as a health care professional. Demonstrates knowledge and practice of patient-care concepts Demonstrate proper communications skills and ability to work with supervisor creating trainings on old/new equipment/instruments to keep physicians, fellows, registered nurses, technicians up to date on new equipment, and equipment competencies. Assist physicians with the use of procedural robotic equipment to include set-up, use, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Provide technical assistance across a broad range of pediatric & adult endoscopic and interventional pulmonary procedures. Surgical care is provided across the entire life spectrum, includes a wide range of inpatient and ambulatory surgical specialties, including (but not limited to: ACS Level 1 Trauma, Bariatric, Burn, Cardiac, Colorectal, Endocrine, ENT, Gynecology, comprehensive Neurosurgery, Oncologic, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Trauma, comprehensive Orthopedic (Spine, Foot & Ankle, Hand & Hand Trauma), Otolaryngology, Pain, Plastics, Robotics, Thoracic, Transplant, Vascular, Urology, and Uro-Gyn.
