JOB POSTING This position works remotely, requiring a telecommuting agreement and adherence to the UCSC Telecommuting/Remote Work Guidelines. The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned telecommuting work hours (specific hours to be discussed with the supervisor). While telecommuting/remote working, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work and, if applicable, arranging for dependent care just as they would if they were working at the regular UCSC worksite.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Scout, from the University of California, delivers high-quality online courses that expand college access and academic success for middle and high school students. We offer A-G approved college preparatory and College Board-approved Advanced Placement (AP) courses online and curricula for students, teachers, schools and districts, especially those serving California's educationally underserved communities. UC Scout is a division of the UC Santa Cruz Extension. While UC Scout's home campus is located at 3175 Bowers Avenue in Santa Clara, the UC Scout team is a full-remote team, with individuals making occasional visits to the campus as needed. UC Scout serves high school students, providing online high school courses for students and curricula for educators. UC Scout's growing team comprises six departments: instructional design, media, academics, support, outreach, and business intelligence. The team consists of approximately 50 full-time staff and 70 part-time employees. The Social Media Coordinator supports UC Scout's outreach and marketing efforts through the design and delivery of strategic social media content across multiple platforms. As a member of the Outreach team and working under the supervision of the Outreach and Marketing Supervisor, this role assists in the development and execution of social media campaigns across multiple platforms to accurately represent UC Scout to defined audiences. The Social Media Coordinator creates and manages on-brand, on-message content designed to increase awareness of UC Scout's programs, services, and values, while contributing to established KPIs and organizational goals. Responsibilities include coordinating content calendars, drafting and designing posts, monitoring engagement, and supporting broader outreach initiatives as part of a collaborative communications team. APPOINTMENT INFORMATION Budgeted Salary: $28.88 - $41.19/hour. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES
40% - Content Creation and Planning
- Creates and maintains original, on-brand social media content across established platforms (including, but not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok).
- Writes clear, engaging copy with strong attention to tone, voice and audience.
- Ability to create content of all kinds, including long and short-form writing, photographic, graphic and video using standard tools.
- Adapts content for platform- and audience-specific best practices and accessibility standards.
- Explores new social networks to reach target audiences and recommends improvements in how social media is used.
- Ensures all content complies with copyright law, platform policies, FERPA and UC guidelines. Secures appropriate permissions and releases for student images, video and testimonials. Verifies rights for music, graphics, photography and third-party content prior to publication. Collaborates with leadership to manage sensitive communications and mitigate reputational risk.
- Maintains organized asset libraries, content calendars and documentation of social media processes. Ensures security and appropriate access controls for all social media accounts.
- Leverages emerging technologies, such as AI-assisted tools, as approved by UC Scout, to improve efficiency in content ideation, drafting, editing, and asset generation, while ensuring accuracy, originality, and compliance with UC Scout guidelines.
- Develops and implements social media plans to support marketing campaigns across relevant platforms.
- Evaluates short and long-term social media plans, updates and modifies as needed to meet organizational goals in alignment with leadership.
- Analyzes performance data to inform strategic adjustments and improve audience growth, engagement and conversions.
- Works to achieve established KPIs in consultation with UC Scout leadership.
- Aligns social media strategy with broader enrollment, outreach and SEO initiatives.
- Manages paid social campaigns, including budget allocation, audience targeting and performance optimization.
- Monitors social media channels for comments, messages and mentions.
- Responds to inquiries, feedback, and basic customer service issues in a timely manner and in consultation with relevant departments.
- Supports crisis communication efforts in coordination with leadership when necessary.
- Fosters positive community interactions and engagement.
- Collaborate with marketing, outreach, and design partners to support campaigns and initiatives.
- Repurpose content across channels and formats to maximize reach and efficiency.
- Stays current with social media trends, platform changes and emerging content formats.
- Applies accessibility and brand guidelines to all content.
- Explores collaborations and partnerships with aligned accounts to achieve established goals.
- Identifies and cultivates strategic partnerships, ambassadors and aligned accounts to expand reach and credibility.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in an appealing, lively and relevant way.
- Thorough understanding of technical language and best practices related to social media communication.
- Thorough knowledge of content management systems and / or relevant web applications used for web production and organization-specific computer application programs.
- Strong technical skills in computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, illustration, presentation preparation, animation, web interaction, and / or other state-of-the-art web communication capabilities.
- Advanced interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong skills to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.
- Strong skills to create clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, accurate, well-designed, and functional web sites that provide web content consistent with the organization's message and in keeping with management directives and client objectives.
- Thorough understanding of applicable rules and regulations for web communications.
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
- Selected candidate must pass the employment misconduct disclosure process.
- Must live within the state of California or willing to relocate to California.
- This is a fully remote position, and the selected candidate must be able to work successfully from a home/remote office and be able to fulfill the requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
