Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior UX Designer/Researcher Accessibility Specialist to support digital modernization initiatives.

This is a pure UX Research and Design role focused on user research, usability testing, user-centered design, accessibility, information architecture, journey mapping, wireframes, and interactive prototyping.

No coding is required. Front-end development experience is optional.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with UX research, Figma, usability testing, WCAG 2.2 Level AA, accessibility auditing, user journey mapping, information architecture, and design documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and execute formal UX research for complex applications and workflows.

• Conduct and moderate hands-on usability testing sessions and usability labs .

• Perform heuristic evaluations using established usability principles and design standards.

• Create user journeys, personas, workflows, and behavioral models.

• Develop information architecture for complex, data-heavy applications.

• Conduct card sorting and other research techniques to improve navigation and content organization.

• Create wireframes, user flows, interactive prototypes, and responsive web application designs.

• Use research findings and analytics to provide data-driven design recommendations .

• Collaborate with UX, accessibility, architecture, product, development, and business stakeholders.

• Integrate accessibility requirements into UX research and design processes.

• Evaluate designs against WCAG 2.2 Level AA requirements.

• Address accessibility considerations including:

  • Keyboard navigation

  • Focus management

  • Color contrast

  • Accessible interaction patterns

  • Accessibility auditing

• Document research findings, design decisions, annotations, and recommendations.

• Clearly communicate UX research insights and design recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a Senior UX Designer, UX Researcher, or UX Designer/Researcher .

• Strong hands-on experience with:

  • UX Research

  • Usability Testing

  • Usability Labs

  • Heuristic Evaluation

  • User Journey Mapping

  • Persona Development

  • Information Architecture

  • Card Sorting

  • Wireframing

  • Interactive Prototyping

• Advanced Figma proficiency.

• Strong understanding of user-centered design and design thinking methodologies.

• WCAG 2.2 Level AA knowledge and practical experience.

• Experience with accessibility auditing, keyboard navigation, focus management, and color contrast.

• Strong ability to analyze user behavior and translate research findings into actionable design recommendations.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Strong stakeholder collaboration and presentation skills.

• Experience designing responsive web application interfaces.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Hotjar, Crazy Egg, or similar heat-map/analytics tools .

• Experience with card-sorting tools and research platforms.

• Nielsen Norman Group training.

• Google UX Certification.

• Formal education in UX, HCI, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related discipline.

• Experience with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) .

• Knowledge of semantic HTML5 and responsive CSS/SASS.

• Experience integrating UX designs into Angular or MVC/.NET environments.

• No coding required

• .NET experience is not required.

• SQL experience is not required.

• Front-end development is optional.

• Accessibility and WCAG 2.2 Level AA are major focus areas.

• Local/regional candidates who can attend occasional in-office meetings are preferred.

• Travel expenses for occasional office visits will not be reimbursed.

• Candidates must be available for interview on September 14th or 15th .

Candidates whose background is primarily front-end development, graphic design, or UI-only design without substantial UX research experience are not the target profile.
