Ophthalmic Technician/Sales Associate

Location: Houston, TX - Heights Area (77008)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule:

• Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
• Saturday: 9:00 AM-3:00 PM
• MUST be available to work 3 Saturdays per month!!
• Dress Code: Scrubs

We are seeking a friendly, motivated, and self-driven Ophthalmic Technician/Sales Associate to join a busy eye care practice. This is a well-rounded opportunity for someone who enjoys working directly with patients and can effectively support clinical testing, patient care, front-office operations, and optical services .

Prior ophthalmic or optical experience is strongly preferred, and completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant program is a major plus. However, the practice is willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates excellent customer service skills, professionalism, and a willingness to learn.

Patient Care & Clinical Support

• Perform patient examination workups, preliminary testing, and post-exam testing as needed.
• Assist with patient flow and support providers during examinations.
• Educate new contact lens wearers on proper insertion, removal, and lens care.
• Complete medication pre-authorizations.
• Provide a professional, friendly, and patient-focused experience.

Front Office & Patient Experience

• Greet patients and manage the check-in/check-out process.
• Confirm patient demographics, contact information, and insurance details.
• Schedule appointments by phone and through online requests.
• Manage multiple incoming phone calls and patient inquiries.
• Verify medical and vision insurance benefits before and upon patient arrival.
• Monitor and respond to practice emails throughout the day.

Optical Services & Sales

• Assist patients with frame selection and eyewear purchases.
• Process glasses and annual contact lens sales.
• Perform basic frame adjustments.
• Troubleshoot frame and prescription issues, including single-vision and progressive lenses.
• Price and maintain frame inventory and keep display boards clean and organized.
• Order, receive, and organize contact lens trial inventory.
• Accurately enter, update, and remove products within the practice software.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Run end-of-day financial reports for management review.
• Complete end-of-month invoice and statement reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate inventory and product records.

• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn practice management software.
• Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced medical and retail environment.
• Experience performing patient workups and preliminary testing preferred.
• Ability to perform frame adjustments and troubleshoot basic prescription/frame issues.
• Prior ophthalmic or optical experience strongly preferred.
• Completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant program is a major plus.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
• Must be available to work three Saturdays per month .

The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, patient-focused, and comfortable working in both a clinical and customer-facing environment . Someone with ophthalmic technician/assistant experience will be a strong fit, but candidates with excellent healthcare or customer service backgrounds who are eager to learn are encouraged to apply.
