Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for planning, evaluating, and implementing a comprehensive statewide system of care for prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) NFETC is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility located in northeast Gainesville, Florida. It employs a variety of positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists. North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Facility is a tobacco free facility. Position Overview Senior Licensed Practical Nurse F/C - OPS serving the Nursing Unit. 20 hours per week. The candidate will serve as a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office, using independent judgment and a proactive approach to responsibilities. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Lifting, pulling, and squatting; applying principles of Total Quality Management; duties occupy at least 75% of time. Provide practical nursing services to residents under the direction of a Senior Physician, collaborating with multidisciplinary staff in a psychiatric/medical setting. Administer oral, injectable, and controlled medications according to Unit Dose Policy (OP 150-35) and within scope of practice. Participate in Hospital Infection Control program, reporting potential infections. Prepare paperwork, administer medications and preps for consults to EKG, EEG, X‑ray, clinics, outside appointments. Assist physician/APRN/PA during sick call and physical examinations, documenting and routing referrals and labs. Coordinate resident appointments with ward staff, ensuring medications given before departure. Provide emergency medical/psychiatric treatment and notify RN/Physician/APRN/PA as needed. Input lab orders per physician/APRN/PA orders. Report problems with medical/nursing equipment to RN for follow‑up. Adhere to resident rights and advocacy, unit/hospital and departmental policies. Assist with admission and transfer of residents to/from other units or outside sources. Print Medication Profile from HCS to attach to discharge forms. Assess resident complaints, alert physician, record orders, and complete incident reports. Complete progress notes on resident care per North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center Operating Procedures and Guidelines. Observe for medication side or adverse effects, report to RN/Physician/APRN/PA. Schedule and document Medication Education groups or 1:1 sessions to increase resident knowledge and compliance. Maintain, clean, inventory medical/nursing equipment and supplies, ordering and restocking as needed. Perform other related duties to meet department and resident quality care needs. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Understanding of nursing principles and techniques. Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Skill in using medical equipment and instruments for nursing care. Manual dexterity in providing nursing care. Ability to administer medications and treatments. Ability to work with patients. Ability to interpret and follow medical instructions. Ability to observe patients’ symptoms and reactions to treatment. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Minimum Qualifications Licensure as a practical nurse in Florida (Statute 464) or eligible to practice nursing per Florida Administrative Code 210‑8.22 or 8.27; and two years of professional nursing experience.
