Respiratory Therapist II, PT Wknd Nights (NICU)

Role Overview The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multi‑problem situations, primarily in critical‑care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision‑making, and self‑direction. The RT II also provides patient and family education, coordinates activities, and participates in staff development and professional growth. The role addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs of patients and their families and mentors new employees and peers. Work Shift & Hours Part‑time nights, weekends – 24 hours per week. Responsibilities Provide customer service through completion of patient care, documentation, and education. Collaborate with the health‑care team to plan and coordinate patient care. Verify orders and administer aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. Perform ventilator management, weaning, wave‑form graphic interpretation, and airway management (intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care). Perform arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educate patients and mentor or precept new employees, students, and peers. Assist in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing as location specific. Promote a team spirit and a positive work environment, providing a supportive setting for students and staff. Promote current and accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging. Promote high levels of patient safety, medication safety, and evidence‑based practice. Support performance improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all WellStar Health System policies, standards, and code of conduct. Qualifications Minimum education: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy education program (CoARC or CAAHP) with at least 20 quarter hours of science. Associate’s Degree (A.S.) required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. 0‑2 years clinical experience with a minimum of 6 months in critical care. Essential skills: strong communication, critical thinking, ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals, and computer skills including familiarity with databases. Licensure & certifications required: Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Basic Life Support (BLS) – Instructor and Provisional Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Instructor and Provisional Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Instructor and Provisional Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Instructor and Provisional Additional licenses and certifications are acceptable but not required.
