Overview

A well-established construction equipment and supply company is seeking a motivated and results-driven Account Manager to join its Heavy Equipment sales team, covering DuPage County, Illinois.

This is a territory-based outside sales role focused on developing new business, growing existing customer accounts, and providing contractors and other customers with heavy equipment sales, rental, and technical solutions.

The ideal candidate is relationship-driven, comfortable prospecting for new business, and enjoys spending time in the field working directly with customers. The company is focused on building long-term customer relationships through reliable service, technical support, and a strong understanding of contractors' equipment needs.

The Role

The Account Manager will independently manage an assigned territory within DuPage County, identifying prospective customers while maintaining and expanding relationships with existing accounts.

This is not an office-based position. While the role is associated with the company's Addison, Illinois location, the Account Manager does not need to report to the office regularly. The majority of the role will be spent within the assigned territory visiting customers, construction sites, suppliers, and industry events.

Success in this position means securing profitable new business, maintaining strong territory coverage, understanding customers' equipment needs, and becoming a trusted resource for heavy equipment sales and rentals.

Responsibilities

• Develop new business by identifying prospects, researching the assigned territory, and determining customer equipment needs.
• Manage and grow existing customer accounts through consistent communication and field visits.
• Conduct sales calls, customer meetings, equipment presentations, and demonstrations.
• Provide technical assistance and equipment recommendations based on customer applications and project requirements.
• Sell and rent a range of heavy equipment including hydraulic excavators, wheel loaders, crawler equipment, loader backhoes, skid steer loaders, compact track loaders, rollers, and related equipment.
• Stay informed of new projects, contracts, and opportunities throughout the assigned territory.
• Participate in industry meetings, associations, exhibitions, demonstrations, and customer events to generate opportunities and strengthen relationships.
• Coordinate equipment deliveries and ensure customers receive equipment in accordance with agreed sales or rental terms.
• Provide owners and operators with guidance on safe equipment operating practices.
• Maintain territory records, sales reports, and customer information while communicating relevant market developments internally.
• Support account and collection matters when necessary in coordination with internal credit teams.

Requirements

• Strong interest in outside sales and new business development.
• Ability to independently manage and develop an assigned sales territory.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable conducting sales presentations and product demonstrations.
• Ability to work around active construction sites and heavy equipment environments.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.

Nice to Have

• Previous heavy equipment sales or rental experience.
• Experience selling to contractors, municipalities, or construction companies.
• Existing relationships within DuPage County or the Greater Chicagoland construction market.
• Technical knowledge of construction equipment and its applications.

Salary

Competitive base salary + monthly commission.

Location

Addison, Illinois / DuPage County Territory, Chicago Downtown, I-80 Corridor, Wauconda area, McHenry area.

This is an outside sales / territory-based position. Regular attendance at the office is not required. The Account Manager will primarily work throughout DuPage County, visiting customers, construction sites, suppliers, and industry events.
