Palliative care focuses on providing relief from the side effects of serious illness. This will be a place for patients to receive end-of-life comfort care and symptom management. Patients may present with uncontrolled pain, severe nausea/vomiting, failure to thrive, fatigue, and more. The goal is to improve quality of life. This is a newly established unit dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered care. The focus will be on comfort, dignity, and effective symptom management. We support patients experiencing advanced illness and imminent end of life. The unit addresses both emotional and psychosocial needs. Travelers who start before the unit opens will float to inpatient units for training. This provides invaluable experience with various patient populations. Candidates must comply with credentialing requirements promptly. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential. The work environment will include interdisciplinary support from various healthcare services. Nurses will manage pain and other distressing symptoms while ensuring patient comfort. Candidates should possess skills related to pain assessment, pharmacologic and non-pharmacological interventions, and managing advanced directives. Palliative care will also involve bereavement planning and addressing spiritual needs.
