Position Summary

The Painter is responsible for preparing, masking, painting, and finishing aircraft engine components, piece parts, accessories, tooling, and other equipment in accordance with approved technical data, customer specifications, FAA regulations, OEM requirements, and company quality standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the appearance, corrosion protection, and airworthiness of aviation components while ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare metal and composite surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, grinding, stripping, bead blasting, or chemical treatment.
• Mask components to protect critical surfaces before coating application.
• Mix primers, paints, topcoats, and specialty coatings according to manufacturer specifications.
• Apply coatings using spray guns, brushes, rollers, or other approved application methods.
• Ensure proper coating thickness and finish quality using applicable measuring equipment.
• Inspect painted parts for defects such as runs, sags, orange peel, contamination, or improper coverage.
• Perform touch-up and rework as necessary.
• Operate paint booths, curing ovens, and related finishing equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain paint inventory and ensure proper storage of hazardous materials.
• Follow all Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements for handling chemicals and coatings.
• Complete production documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment using 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Comply with all company policies, FAA regulations, OSHA standards, EPA requirements, and environmental procedures.
• Assist other production departments as needed.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and workplace safety.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 2 years of industrial painting experience .
• Experience operating spray equipment and paint preparation tools.
• Ability to read and interpret work instructions and technical documentation.
• Basic knowledge of measuring tools and quality inspection techniques.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in an FAA Part 145 Repair Station.
• Aviation, aerospace, MRO, military, or turbine engine component painting experience.
• Experience applying epoxy primers, polyurethane coatings, high-temperature coatings, and corrosion-resistant finishes.
• Knowledge of OEM painting specifications.
• Forklift certification (preferred).
• Respirator fit test certification.

Work Environment

The employee works in an industrial aircraft maintenance and overhaul facility where exposure to paint fumes, solvents, chemicals, compressed air equipment, and loud machinery is common. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators, eye protection, gloves, hearing protection, and protective clothing, must be worn as required.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
• Bend, squat, climb ladders, and reach overhead.
• Use hands continuously for spraying, sanding, masking, and handling tools.
• Ability to wear respiratory protection for extended periods.
