Job Type Regular Pay Range $27.65 - $33.59 Hourly Department Sheriff's Office FLSA Exemption Status Non-Exempt About The Opportunity The Washington County Sheriff's Office Business Administration Division is looking for an experienced Accounting Assistant II to join our administrative team. The Accounting Assistant II primarily supports processing personnel actions, timekeeping, payroll processing, and payables. In this position, you will directly support more than 600 employees as a subject matter expert in personnel actions related to employees’ questions and in training of new hires. You will coordinate directly with County Finance and Human Resources Departments to ensure correct and timely submission of personnel actions. As part of a small administrative team, you will process invoices for payment and perform other administrative and accounting tasks as assigned. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. Knowledge Of Ideal Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Financial and accounting recordkeeping practices and procedures. Applicable federal, state, and local laws. Basic mathematical principles. Skills To Provide timely, effective, and efficient customer service to citizens, clients, and other employees. Interact patiently with individuals making inquiries regarding various County programs and services, who may have little or no experience or knowledge of the services provided. Ability To Prepare financial statements. Operate modern office technologies, including productivity software, cloud-based collaboration platforms, digital communication tools, and automated office equipment. Enter data at a speed necessary for successful job performance. Perform procedures in an organized and accurate manner. Accurately count, record, and balance assigned transactions. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Minimum Qualifications A high school diploma or equivalent; AND One (1) year of general clerical experience including some financial record keeping. Additional Requirements Selected candidate must be able to pass a Post-offer Drug Screen. Background Investigation: The selected finalist(s) for this position must be able to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office. The background Investigation for this position typically takes 6-8 weeks to complete, so you will want to plan accordingly. WCSO enhances public safety by fostering professionalism, compassion, and trust within its team and the communities it serves. WCSO is the primary first responder for unincorporated residents, offering services from routine patrol and crime investigation to specialized teams. The WCSO also operates the county’s only jail and provides contract services to cities within the county. The Business Administrative Division is responsible for budget planning and execution, payroll, contracts, grants, quartermaster, and various other administrative functions within the Sheriff's Office. This administrative support enables more than 600 employees of the Sheriff's Office to do their jobs in providing public safety services throughout Washington County.
