Facilities Maintenance TechnicianThe Facilities Maintenance Technician responds to and troubleshoots a wide range of building maintenance work orders in large, modern commercial facilities with office and lab spaces. This role focuses on doors and hardware, restrooms and sinks, lighting and basic electrical issues, general plumbing, and basic HVAC troubleshooting. The technician performs general facility repairs such as painting, patching, minor carpentry, and preventive maintenance, while supporting day-to-day operations in a high-activity, robotics-focused environment with technical equipment.ResponsibilitiesRespond to and troubleshoot work orders involving doors, locks, and related hardware to ensure secure and reliable access throughout the facility.Diagnose and repair issues in restrooms and sinks, including fixtures, leaks, and clogs, to maintain clean and functional washroom facilities.Perform lighting maintenance and basic electrical work, including light fixture replacement and minor electrical troubleshooting, to keep work areas properly illuminated.Handle general plumbing repairs, such as addressing leaks, clogs, and minor piping issues, to support smooth building operations.Conduct basic HVAC troubleshooting, including swapping air filters and performing routine preventive maintenance tasks, to support comfortable and efficient building climate control.Perform general facility repairs including painting, drywall patching, and minor carpentry to maintain a clean, safe, and professional appearance across office and lab spaces.Complete preventive maintenance tasks on building systems and equipment to reduce downtime and extend asset life.Order materials, parts, and supplies as needed and maintain appropriate inventory levels to ensure timely completion of work orders.Navigate large indoor buildings using a golf cart to access various office and lab areas efficiently and respond quickly to service requests.Support day-to-day operations in a commercial environment with high activity and technical equipment, ensuring facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.Follow established processes, safety procedures, and maintenance standards at all times to protect employees, visitors, and equipment.Prioritize, document, and complete work orders in a timely manner, communicating status and updates clearly to stakeholders.Work independently across large buildings and multiple sites, managing workload and schedule effectively.Perform hands-on tasks including plumbing fixes, painting, patching, and general repairs as required to address facility needs.Essential SkillsMinimum of 5+ years of facilities maintenance experience within a commercial or manufacturing setting.Commercial facilities maintenance background; residential or apartment-only experience is not sufficient for this role.Proven ability to troubleshoot a wide range of building systems and general maintenance issues, including plumbing, lighting, and basic electrical.Hands-on experience with light fixture replacement and basic electrical repairs.Basic HVAC knowledge, including tasks such as swapping air filters and performing preventive maintenance.Demonstrated experience with general repairs including painting, drywall patching, and minor carpentry.Ability to work independently across large buildings and multiple sites, managing time and priorities effectively.Strong communication skills to interact with internal stakeholders and clearly report on work order status and facility issues.Comfort with performing hands-on maintenance tasks in active commercial and lab environments.Willingness to work swing shifts and be open to weekend work as needed.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working in lab environments is a strong plus, particularly in settings with robotics and high-tech equipment.Familiarity with industrial or manufacturing facilities and related maintenance practices.Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and best practices for building systems.Ability to navigate large indoor facilities using golf carts or similar vehicles to reach multiple buildings and sites.Strong organizational skills for managing materials, parts ordering, and inventory control.Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-activity environment with complex technical equipment.Flexibility to train on a day schedule (starting at 8 a.m.) for the first month and transition to swing shift (starting at 12 p.m. or 2 p.m.).Ability to adapt to mid-shift or later-shift schedules from Monday to Friday, depending on operational needs.Why Work Here?This opportunity offers access to a comprehensive benefits program, designed to support health, financial security, and work-life balance for eligible employees. Work is performed across multiple buildings, with golf carts used for transportation between sites to respond efficiently to maintenance needs. The setting is commercial and high-activity, with a strong emphasis on safety procedures and established maintenance processes. Initial training occurs on a day schedule starting at 8 a.m. for approximately the first month, after which the position transitions to a swing shift starting at either 12 p.m. or 2 p.m. Mid-shift or later-shift options from Monday to Friday may also be available, and there is an expectation of openness to working weekends as needed. Attire is typically practical and appropriate for hands-on maintenance work in an industrial and lab environment, allowing for safe interaction with tools, equipment, and building systems.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Palo Alto, CA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $39.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
