LPN Psychiatric

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Montana State Hospital provides skilled nursing care, assessments, planning, interventions, and evaluations for adult clients in a therapeutic environment. This role involves supervising and accounting for patients, delivering care as directed by medical and nursing providers, observing and documenting patients' physical, emotional, and behavioral status, and employing therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques. The LPN will support individuals with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric disorders, ensuring patient rights and safety are maintained. Responsibilities:

• Perform patient assessments and document findings accurately.
• Implement appropriate nursing care interventions as directed.
• Supervise and account for patients within the facility.
• Observe, report, and document patients' physical, emotional, and behavioral status.
• Maintain and protect patient rights and dignity.
• Utilize therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques effectively.
• Collaborate with medical and nursing providers to deliver comprehensive care.
• Use basic nursing instruments and equipment proficiently.
• Employ technology related to patient care information systems.
• Adhere to facility policies and procedures including safety protocols.

• Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program.
• Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Montana or compact license.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
• Ability to perform patient assessments and document accurately.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of psychopharmacology.
• Proficiency in therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques.
• Competency in using nursing instruments and patient care technology.

• Experience providing care to individuals with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric disorders.
• Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).
• At least 1 year of contract or travel nursing experience.

• Shift work including 12-hour shifts, specifically 7p-7a night shifts.
• Work environment includes caring for patients with intellectual disabilities, adult psychiatric conditions, or autism spectrum disorders.
• Shift differential may be available.
• One meal provided per shift.
• Must be flexible with facility scheduling and able to work at multiple campus locations (Warm Springs or Grasslands).

• Primarily 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
• Shift assignments may vary based on facility needs.
• Flexibility required to accommodate scheduling changes.
