Open Rank Faculty - Smart & Resilient Infrastructure Open Rank, Tenure‑Track Faculty Position (Academic Year, 9‑month), in the College of Engineering at the University of Georgia. Position Summary The College of Engineering invites applications for open‑rank, academic‑year tenure‑track faculty positions in civil engineering focused on smart and resilient infrastructure. The appointment begins August 1 , 2026 and includes a core teaching load, research responsibilities, and service to the department and university. Responsibilities Teach undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses in civil engineering, resilient infrastructure, and related areas. Develop and maintain a research program in smart infrastructure, resilient infrastructure, or a closely related discipline, including publishing in peer‑reviewed journals and presenting at national conferences. Seek external research funding and manage grant projects, supplementing salary during the summer. Participate in departmental and university service activities, including curriculum development, student advising, and committee work. Collaborate with interdisciplinary research partners within the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, & Mechanical Engineering and other colleges. Use and promote AI, large‑language models, risk analysis, probabilistic assessment, simulation, and sensing technologies for infrastructure resilience and sustainability. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline. Documented research background appropriate for the appointment rank, demonstrated through peer‑reviewed publications. For associate professor rank: a national reputation and prior tenure required. Strong teaching record or demonstrated teaching potential. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Preferred Qualifications Expertise in smart infrastructure and smart construction technologies for concrete bridges and structures. Background in resilient infrastructure engineering with focus on advanced techniques. Research expertise in AI, large‑language models, risk analysis, probabilistic assessment, simulation, sensing, telemonitoring, or related areas.
