Biotechnology Research Analyst

About the Opportunity Our client, a distinguished investment management firm with a focus on biotechnology and life sciences, is seeking Biotechnology Research Analysts and Directors to join their New York office. These roles offer hands‑on exposure to investment research and operational involvement across a portfolio of therapeutics, combining scientific and financial analysis with strategic guidance for existing and prospective portfolio companies. The positions are designed to provide broad visibility, close collaboration with executive leadership, and meaningful impact on drug development strategy, clinical trial design, and corporate value creation. Hybrid work arrangements are preferred (minimum two days onsite), with flexibility for remote candidates. Job Responsibilities Conduct rigorous scientific, clinical, and financial analysis of biotechnology assets and therapeutic areas to support investment and operational decisions Evaluate drug development strategies, product opportunities, and competitive landscapes across a broad portfolio of companies Support and contribute to indication selection, clinical development planning, and trial design for existing and future portfolio holdings Perform comprehensive diligence on scientific, clinical, and commercial aspects of therapeutics, synthesizing findings for executive leadership, investment committees, and boards Analyze and interpret complex medical and research data, translating insights into concise written reports, presentations, and actionable recommendations Lead or support financial and market analysis of biotechnology companies and products, including assessment of profitability, market positioning, and transaction execution Collaborate closely with investment professionals, portfolio operations teams, and external advisors to maximize business growth and innovation Participate in hands‑on operational involvement within portfolio companies, including start‑ups, acquisitions, and internal programs Contribute to research pitches, operational management, and clinical development activities, with opportunities for increased responsibility based on performance Job Requirements Bachelor's or advanced degree in life sciences, chemistry, or medicine required; exceptional academic record preferred Ability to synthesize highly technical scientific and clinical information (including documentation from Phase 1-3 clinical trials) and communicate findings to financial and strategic audiences Strong quantitative, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail Demonstrated work ethic, high integrity, tenacity, and willingness to learn and tackle a variety of challenges Capacity to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, performance‑driven environment with cross‑functional responsibilities Commercial mindset and willingness to actively participate in operational management and drug development initiatives, not strictly research or investment analysis Experience in financial analysis or familiarity with investment frameworks is highly valued Ability to work hybrid in New York (minimum two days onsite) for investor meetings; fully remote options considered for exceptional candidates Compensation The annual base salary range is $120,000 to $275,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
