Senior Project Manager (CPM)

Job Description Reporting to the Vice President of Capital Projects, the Sr. Project Manager supports the Queens Public Library by ensuring the best interests of public library programs and services, and health and safety for all internal and external customers. As Queens Public Library’s project representative for various capital projects, the Sr. Project Manager is responsible for all phases of managing capital construction projects and major renovations. May supervise a team of project managers. Fosters and maintains collaborative working relationships with internal organizational units and external stakeholders. Works with public agencies to execute projects and meet deliverables on schedule and within budget. Performs other duties as assigned. Major Responsibilities Project Management Participates in project development for projects such as capital improvement, including finalizing scope of projects, preparing bid summaries, preparing project budgets and preparing cost estimates. Reviews and directs the review of project plans submitted by architects, engineers for adequacy of application and conformance to City/Library/HS standards. Monitors work status through formal and informal means to evaluate progress towards objectives. Updates project status to all involved in the project (stakeholders) on a bi-weekly basis. Maintains complete and accurate records and complies with all Library/City regulations. Develops scope of projects, requirements, and deliverables; plans resources and schedules, and prepares cost estimates. Anticipates problems and recommends a range of realistic and cost-effective solutions. Provides input to the VP of Capital Projects during the budget planning process. Assists in the development of construction budgets and schedules. Conducts financial analysis of projects. Reviews contractors’ requests for payment and request for change orders. Staff Supervision and Development May recruit, train and supervise a team of motivated professionals. Required Education, Certifications And Experience Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in construction management, architecture or related discipline or commensurate experience. A minimum of 6 years of related experience in construction/project management in the management of mid-size to large-scale construction projects, including a comprehensive knowledge of building infrastructure systems and an understanding of current materials and methods of construction. At least two years of supervisory experience. Must be experienced user of MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Acquainted with the principles of space planning, the vocabulary of furniture, and the fundamentals of accessible building design. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to take individual ideas and refine them to become actionable solutions. Familiar with energy efficient and sustainable design. Commitment to serving all communities in the most diverse area of the country. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge and experience with rules and regulations regarding use of public funds for capital construction projects. Experience with Computer Aided Design systems.
